LIBERTYVILLE SUNRISE ROTARY GATHERED FOR THE 10TH ANNUAL CHARITABLE GIVING CELEBRATION AND DINNER
On Wednesday April 29, 2009, representatives from 27 local charities were honored at the Libertyville Sunrise Rotary Charitable Giving Dinner held at Lambs Farm in Libertyville to celebrate the charities' exceptional work throughout the year. Each of the chosen charities was awarded monies to help run their organizations. For some, it is the only funds they receive. It is a special night for the Sunrise Rotarians who honor tireless work by dedicated individuals whose efforts sometimes go unrecognized. "There's no meeting during the year that embodies the spirit of Rotary more than this evening for our club," said Dennis Kratohwil, Sunrise Rotary president, "tonight we will distribute $51,500 to 27 organizations." Rotary members look forward to this special dinner to individually recognize each charity and the work it does all year long. There were a few particularly moving comments from recipients and stories were shared about how the programs enrich the lives of so many. These organizations provide tremendous social support to the community due to their unwavering commitment of time and energy. Once again, the evening was highlighted by the presentation of the Larry Jelinek Memorial Literacy Award, named after the late Larry Jelinek, a long-time Sunrise Rotarian and former teacher who encompassed the Rotary motto, "Service Above Self". The $500 award was presented by Loretta Jelinek Lieske to Mike Grenda, principal of Green Bay School, to help promote literacy within the school.
