New President Doug Fendon opened the meeting and Bob McConnell led us in the pledge.Greeter Scott Fine gave the prayer and Steve Kershner led us in a rousing rendition of "Smile". Glad we invested in those song books!

Jeff Harger is expecting his third grandson.

NEW MEMBER INDUCTION:

The Club inducted a new member today. Jeff O'Kelley is an estate planning attorney in Lake Forest. He, his wife and 2 year old daughter live in Libertyville.

FUN & FROLICS:

In honor of the Apollo 11 space mission, Brian McMurrough gave us a quiz on the space program.

 

 

Our program today was Ellen Young our District Governor. She told us that new Rotary President Gary Huang, in a gathering of governors, urged them to "Make news of the day better". This is Rotary's 110th year and District 6440, The Home District, is 100 years old. She urged us to participate and get good news on the news. She asked us to hold Rotary Days in our community.

Rotary's goals are: 1. Eradicate polio. 2. Build membership. 3. Solidarity and growth of 1. and 2. 4. Focus on the sectors of growth. "Teach people to fish not expect a handout". The district will participate in $1.3 million in grants from the Foundation. Collaborate with other Clubs. Clean water and vaccines are priorities. 1.3 billion doses of polio vaccine given out last year. 45% of the world lives in poverty. 1.1 billion people do not have safe water. 13 million starve each year.

"Kids helping kids" is a focus this year, Teach our grandchildren to do community service. The Rotary Foundation will hold events in the Fall. We should make every effort to get new members interested in Rotary. Membership is a year round activity. Pachukacha is a 6 minute video with 20 images that tells the story of Rotary.
