Nancy Webster and Cathryn Lambrecht from the Highland Park Historical Society shared with the club the rich history of Highland Park brought to the spotlight with the town's sesquicentennial, known as HP150. To help bring this about many papers and books - including our club's "Pioneer to Commuter" were used as references. Many different groups have come to together mark such an event. For example, Highland Park Poetry has put together a book of poems entitled "Voices of the Past" marking the lives of early Highland Park; a quilting group designed and created a quilt marking moments in Highland Park's history. To highlight places and moments from the city's vibrant history, there are puzzle pieces throughout town marking important buildings, people and events. The time capsule from 1969 was opened, and placed on display at the library. Later this month, the city will be unveiling a sculpture marking its first 150 years. Now, it's onto making our mark in the next 150! Many thanks to Carrie Callas for her notes! |
