A Special invitation :

The City of Highland Park invites you to the HP150 Sculpture and Sponsor Brick Unveiling on Tuesday, October 29 at 4:30 PM at our new Sesquicentennial Park at the intersection of Deerfield Road, Hickory Street, and Laurel Avenue. Parking is available at Immaculate Conception Parish, 770 Deerfield Rd.

In 2018, the City’s Cultural Arts Advisory Group (CAAG) conducted a competitive solicitation for an outdoor public art sculpture to commemorate the City’s 150th Anniversary. The City moved forward with CAAG’s recommendation and commissioned a sculpture entitled ‘Ingress’ by artist Michael Szabo of San Francisco, California. Ingress was installed in August. Landscaping including the placement of the HP150 sponsor bricks will take place in the coming weeks. Artist Michael Szabo will be at the unveiling ceremony for a meet and greet following the unveiling.

Thank you to all of our HP150 sponsors. The commemorative bricks will become a fixture in our community to be enjoyed by future generations! Also, thank you to the Highland Park/ Highwood Rotary Club and Highland Park/ Highwood Lions Club for their generous bench donations that will be placed in the park.  For more information about Ingress, please contact the City Manager’s Office at 847.926.1000. To learn more about the City’s sesquicentennial celebration, please visit www.cityhpil.com/HP150.

The Day's Program
Nancy Webster and Cathryn Lambrecht from the Highland Park Historical Society shared with the club the rich history of Highland Park brought to the spotlight with the town's sesquicentennial, known as HP150. To help bring this about many papers and books - including our club's "Pioneer to Commuter" were used as references.

Many different groups have come to together mark such an event. For example, Highland Park Poetry has put together a book of poems entitled "Voices of the Past" marking the lives of early Highland Park; a quilting group designed and created a quilt marking moments in Highland Park's history. To highlight places and moments from the city's vibrant history, there are puzzle pieces throughout town marking important buildings, people and events. The time capsule from 1969 was opened, and placed on display at the library.

Later this month, the city will be unveiling a sculpture marking its first 150 years.

Now, it's onto making our mark in the next 150!

Many thanks to Carrie Callas for her notes!
