With 2020 looming, it's time for Club Visioning Sessions! (20/20, get it?)The last time it occurred was in 2012-2013. At that time about 30 members spent 3-4 hours at a workshop, making a plan for what Rotary wants to do in the next 3-5 years..

A somber reminder: on October 24, 2017, the City of Highland Park recognized that day as World Polio Day in recognition of Rotary International's effort to eliminate this paralyzing disease for which there is no cure, but which can be prevented through vaccines.

Anyone who can play an instrument is invited to join the District Conference Band.

Mark your calendar!  Our annual Gala will be held May 16th at Exmoor Country Club.

The Day's Program
James Lynch has a background in acting and started at Art Center years ago teaching acting to non actors.  He has done Ted Talks on leadership and management training and has also worked as an executive coach.
He took over as the Executive Director about a year and a half ago.   The Art Center was struggling with its local and non profit relationships and funding.  Staff morale was not great.  He was able to apply his background of teaching/coaching/acting to change the culture of the organization.
Common Themes he worked from:
  • Start with Yes – “The Answer is Yes”, whatever the question. He taught his staff to say YES.
  • Do good while doing well
  • Make Art available to All
  • Expand Horizons
  • Inspire, Educate and Connect
TAC provides over 400+ visual art classes and workshops to over 2400 individuals children to seniors.
Provides Event space to rent, host birthday parties
All art exhibits are free – they ask for donations only
The 4 Agreements for his staff:
  • Be impeccable with your word
  • Don’t take things personally
  • Don’t make assumptions
  • Always do your best
TAC is very committed to increasing and growing partnerships with local non profits and business owners – if you have a project or an idea let James know!!!
  • Working with City of HP to promote art and culture in our community.  They will host a micro-gallery at  City Hall and are requesting submissions for art work now.
James provided a beautiful Powerpoint slide show of past art exhibits and some upcoming ones…
  • Pop Art 2.0
  • Just recently held their recycled art sale this month: one of the fundraiser events they put on, was very successful and had great donations from corporations and private residents
  • Spring Benefit: Zoraida Sambolin was the Celebrity Host and is very committed to arts – she loved it and they are asking her back for Spring 2020
  • Festival of Fine Arts each Summer is hosted by The Art Center and features around 100 artists from around the world
2020 is the 60th Anniversary of The Art Center – lots fun activities are planned!

Thanks to Jenanne Rock for her notes!
