Charities Committee Chair Paul Munk introduced Pam Feinberg, executive director of Tri-Con Child Care. The non-profit day care and early learning center is located at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Highland Park and has been in operation since March of 1971. As the brainstorm and selfless commitment of Trinity, the National Counsel of Jewish Women and Catholic Charities, the center focuses on the care of three - six year old preschoolers of low income families. The typical family income of it's children is $30,000 per year. They insure their students, 35 in all, have access to programs that prepare them for school in addition to meals, an on site playground and family activities. Development through language, cognitive and social skills are provided with a wide range of hands-on activities and opportunities. The cost of weekly care $235 per week but the average family pays about $51 per week based on a sliding scale. So, Tri-Con funds are always challenged particularly during the state's budget crisis.
A brief committees meeting was held after the meeting - Fred Orkin is continuing his development of a Member Pilot Program and Paul Munk updated members about the Charities Committee. A lot of discussion was about the Interact's $20,000 grant from Rohan' parents and Coca-Cola (a 50/50 split). Interact plans on sending their 2017-18 board and teachers to Atlanta. President Plouché also plans on attending.
Thank you to Karen Dennis and Cynthia Plouché for your notes!
