Announcements
Please enjoy these announcements from the last two weeks...

Every day is a good day to thank a veteran for his or her service. However, it's particularly important on November 11th, Veteran's Day.  We honor the sacrifices so many have made for our country in the name of freedom and democracy. It is the very foundation of Veteran's Day. For your bravery, hard work and dedication to our country, we thank all of our veterans!

The 9th Annual Day of Giving event is hosted at Northwood Junior High School. Students organized clothes, toiletries, food and other necessities by donated by families. across District 112. Other students made blankets, cards and gift bags for local families. The 112 Education Foundation is proud to support this service-learning program. See below for the list of needed items in the article titled "Day of Giving 2019".  Our club member Scott Coren will be coordinating our effort. Volunteers needed for Friday December 6th and especially Saturday morning (the 7th) when kids are no longer involved. Businesses acting as collection points are both HP and Highwood City Halls, FBHP, HPB&T and at Northwood Junior High.

This just in......Our holiday party will be held December 13th at Fred Orkin and Sylvis Aruffo's home.  More details to follow very soon!

Rotary Interact Inauguration Breakfast 2019-2020
Getting up early for a morning meeting is never fun. When you add the frigid temperatures and the drive, you find yourself grumbling for more coffee before you even arrive at your destination.

That was me last week.  I worked on fringes of the Interact Breakfast  and felt invested enough that I wanted to be a part of that event - to meet these incredible 117 students. The early alarm clock and cold drive in the dark was well worth it. Most of us know how amazing the kids in the Interact Club are - after all, we work with them on several community service projects throughout the year. To see all of them in one room  bright, energized and ready for whatever is next was a warm and contagious feeling. I will admit, I shed a few tears at the story of Rohan, the guiding spirit of the Club. More on Rohan next week.

We welcome the 2019-2020 Interact Club and congratulations to their sponsors, Melissa Zientara and Jennifer Ginopolis!

Happy Dollars for November 19th
Sandra Bast for her daughter who was recently on a PBS episode of Nova; Eric Ephraim to Curt's Cafe for hosting this evening; Diana Sotelo for riding to End Polio last weekend and for expanding her business into Michigan; Pete Koukos for his granddaughter Margaret who is teaching yoga in South Africa this week; Ron Davis for all the new members present tonight; Paul for Curt's Cafe and Susan Trieschmann for hosting; Jim Berardi for the Interact Inauguration Breakfast last week - 117 students and 70 parents attended! It was very energizing and inspirational.
Curt's Cafe
Club members were greeted warmly by Sam, our waitstaff and the eclectic ambiance of Curt's Cafe Highland Park. We dined on salmon, lasagna, vegetable rice pilaf and a couple of yummy salads. Of course, we can't forget the delicious dessert bars either!

The Highland Park site has only been open for three weeks and we were their first in-house catered event. Owner and founder, Susan Trieshmann spoke about the opportunities and services offered to at risk youth. Not only will the students learn job skills at all levels of the business: handling cash, making specialty coffees, waiting on customers and even cooking and food handling. There is also a full time social worker or counselor on hand to help each student through any PTSD, anxiety and anger issues that they might have. We look forward to Curt's Cafe to being a a success in our community!
