John Christian hosted Erin Richter, our guest and speaker, and her mother at the Nov 5th meeting.  Erin is an eighth grader at Prairie Crossing Charter School and is working on a service project for a charity called Clean the World, which was the subject of her well-organzied presentation to the Grayslake Rotary Club.  Erin has already given this same presentation to the Libertyville Sunrise Rotary Club.

Erin Richter addressing the Grayslake Rotray Club about Clean the World

Clean the World is committed to:  (1) reducing the waste created by discarded soap and shampoo products from the hospitality industry, and; (2) preventing the millions of deaths every year caused by hygiene-related illnesses around the world. The organization collects soap from hotels all over the country, cleans and reprocess it into new bars that they distribute to places like Haiti and other developing countries where access to soap is limited. In just three years Clean the World has collected, recycled, and distributed more than 10 million soap bars in the U.S., Canada, and 45 other countries.

Erin is trying to increase awareness about Clean the World because most people have never heard of it, and she did a great job educating our Rotary Club's members about the need for the program and its effectiveness.  To learn more about Clean the World please visit their website at www.cleantheworld.org
