Larry Herzog hosted Pat Carey, former Grayslake mayor and current Lake County Board member, as our club's guest and featured speaker at the Oct 1st meeting.  Pat discussed many issues that she has been involved with on behalf of the county, including the judicial system, re-districting, health programs, and public works.  She gave us insight into the ongoing Dept of Transportation work currently underway on the Rt 21 & Rt 137 intersection, as well as at Rollins Road & Rt83 - of note on these projects is the fact that while these should be state-funded, the county has taken them on to effect the desired improvements despite the lack of financial commitment from the state.

Pat described her affinity for local government work versus any aspirations for state or higher level office - she likes that local government is more accountable to the people it represents and serves, and that it works in a decidedly more non-partisan environment than does downstate or federal level government.  Pat cited the county increase in recycling from 38% to 60% as a worthy achievement. and its ongoing focus on economic development to create jobs.  It was a fact-filled meeting, and much appreciated by all in attendance.
