As everyone is aware, the east coast of the United States has suffered immensely from the impact and after-effects of hurricane Sandy.  The tragic loss of life and property has been a sad and heavy burden on those immediately affected, but we all share in their suffering and would like to help in some way.  Initial indications are that the best way to assist relief efforts is via direct financial support to charitable relief agencies, such as Red Cross, Salvation Army, etc., and this was the initial thrust of our club.

However, Greg Koeppen researched east coast area Rotary clubs and discovered that the Rotary Club of Canton NY was establishing a relief fund with at least one other NY-area Rotary club to to aid recovery efforts.  Due to the close and trustworthy relationships all Rotary Clubs share, the selfless stewardship of donated dollars, and the hands-on administration of these efforts by Rotary clubs on the scene, we may find that this option better ensures that our donated dollars have the maximum positive impact.  Greg hopes to have bank account information from the NY-area clubs after the weekend, hopefully in time for our meeting on Monday.

While we do have a planned speaker for the meeting, we will dedicate some time to discuss our club's desires regarding donating to the relief effort, as well as the best target for those donations and the actual amount.  Please consider this over the weekend so we can discuss the pertinent issues quickly and decisively at the meeting - I propose that our goal should be a check in the mail ($500-1000) by Monday evening if the club so decides. Thank you for your consideration of this important issue.
