Thanks to the efforts of many of our Grayslake Rotary Club members, led by our fearless President, Peter "The Lobster" Primasen, local residents visiting ArtFest 09 in downtown Grayslake on Saturday, June 20th, found cool and free respite from the heat and sun in the form of free bottles of ice cold water.  The free water handout was "hotly" welcomed, served as a great calling card for our club, increased our exposure to the Grayslake community, and helped inform interested residents about our mission and how to get involved locally in Rotary.
The Grayslake Rotary Club manned a table all day, handing out iced down bottles of water to appreciative ArtFest visitors.  The lack of a tent or canopy at our table was manifestly apparent, and anyone who runs into Peter Primasen on Monday will immediately see the consequences.

John and Curt Miller also provided four hand-blown art glass pieces donated by John's brother, which were raffled off for one dollar donations, netting a total of $90.  Thanks to John and Curt for this last-minute but very successful little fund-raiser.

The event was a good opportunity to show our local Rotary Club's face in the community, and we received four or five serious inquiries from prospective new members.

We also were approached by a mother who hoped to find some support from our Club in assisting her family's efforts to obtain a service dog for her young daughter, who suffers from a wide range of life-threatening allergies.  Peter will have more on that subject in the future.

All in all, ArtFest 09 proved to be a successful low-key project for the Club that provided a welcome service for our local community, positive exposure for our Club, potential leads to new members, and a possible future service project.  Good job, Grayslake Rotary Club!
