At the June 29th meeting, Shirley Christian hosted Kirk Smith, of the Grayslake Economic Development Commission (EDC).  Kirk detailed the latest news on upcoming plans to bring new business growth to Grayslake and to further develop the existing economic base.
Kirk discussed several ungoing or upcoming development plans, which give potential for an increased commercial tax base for Grayslake, which of course will benefit the local school districts and public facilities.  Among the programs discussed were: a tenfold increase in size of the CompX manufacturing business on Center St., the growth of the Lake County Fairgrounds from 107 to 157 acres at the new fairgrounds site, projected layout of the new Fairgrounds shopping mall and renderings of the mall architecture, the expansion of Lake Forest Hospital, the Jewel grocery store expansion, and the balanced commercial/residential development of the Central Range.  All in all, it was an illuminating insight into where commerical development in Grayslake is heading.  Further information can be found at the Grayslake EDC website.
