Little Free Libraries
The Rotary Club of Cary-Grove has partnered with The Friends of the Fox River Grove Memorial Library over the past few years to help promote literacy. One of this year’s projects is to place two Little Free Libraries within their community. These are now completed and will be installed in the spring when the weather permits. Photos of the construction phase for these libraries can be found in the Photo Albums Section of our website.

Rotary District 6440 WASH Program

Clean water and hygiene education can improve the health of children. That's the goal of Rotary International's Water, Sanitation And Hygiene (WASH) program. At today's meeting, Narayan Murarka from the Rotary Club of Barrington (Breakfast) informed the membership of the status of the work being done in Sumpango, a part of the Rotary Club of Guatemala Sur, which is part of Rotary District 4250.

The Barrington Breakfast Club has taken the lead on the Rotary International Challenge Grants program.  Of the 46 clubs that applied for these grants, Barrington was selected as one of the four winners. Their task was to solicit individual clubs within District 6640 to raise for this project. The Rotary Club of Cary-Grove was eager to participate in this endeavor. At today's meeting, President, Pat Finlon presented Narayan with the club's check, which will be matched by Rotary District 6440.

To learn more about the specific goals this grant will enable, visit Rotary District 6440's website.

March Board Meeting
The March board meeting will be held on Monday, March 5th at Panera Bread located in Fox River Grove. The meeting will begin at 6:30pm.
Habitat for Humanity Project
Several club members were at The Habitat for Humanity home at 6303 Hillcrest in Cary last Saturday to participate in the work detail selected for our group. The specific work was to drywall the garage area, which I understand, went nicely. With the exception of Pat getting more glue on himself than the drywall, everything worked out well. More dates are available for further work details, so stay tuned for updates. If anyone has photos or additional details, email them to me, and I will get them posted on our website.

Joke of the Week
After retiring, a former Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant took a new job as a high school teacher. Just before the school year started, he injured his back.  He was required to wear a light plaster cast around the upper part of his body. Fortunately, the cast fit under his shirt and wasn't noticeable when he wore his suit coat.

On the first day of class, he found himself assigned to the toughest students in the school. The smart-aleck  punks, having already heard the new teacher was a former Marine, were leery of him, and he knew they would be testing his discipline in the classroom. Walking confidently into the rowdy classroom, the new teacher opened the window wide and sat down at his desk. With a strong breeze blowing it made his tie flap. He picked up a stapler and stapled the tie to his chest … DEAD SILENCE
Tiffany Au's Website
As mentioned at today's meeting by Sue, Tiffany Au has developed a website "The Greatest Wedding Ever Donated". Tiffany is a graduate of Cary-Grove High School and is a past recipient of the Decker Scholarship awarded by the Rotary Club of Cary-Grove. Her website highlights her upcoming wedding to Caleb Remington and talks about the work they are doing together to raise funds and awareness for the fight against Cystic Fibrosis. Visit her site http://www.thegwed.com to learn more about their efforts and to learn how you can contribute toward this wonderful cause.

District Conference
The District Conference will be held at Blue Harbor Resort in Sheboygan, Wis on May 17th through May 20th. Registration is now available at the district's website. Visit their other link that to see more about agenda & pricing.

Rotary Action & Fellowship Groups
One of President Steve's goals this year is to have at least one member join a Rotary Action Group or Rotary Fellowship Group.  As stated on RI's website, a Rotarian Action Group is an autonomous group of Rotarians, family members, program participants and alumni who are experts in a particular field, such as micro-credit or water and sanitation. More information about these groups and their purpose can be found on RI's website.

Rotary Fellowships are independent groups of Rotarians, family members, program participants and alumni who share a common passion. Being part of a fellowship is a fun way to make friends from around the world.  Again, more detailed information is available at this link to RI's website.

If you haven't all ready done so, take the time to click on the two links above and see if there may be a group that fits with your interests.  It's a great way to make new friends and to share common interests with Rotarians from around the world.
