As mentioned at today's meeting by Sue, Tiffany Au has developed a website "The Greatest Wedding Ever Donated". Tiffany is a graduate of Cary-Grove High School and is a past recipient of the Decker Scholarship awarded by the Rotary Club of Cary-Grove. Her website highlights her upcoming wedding to Caleb Remington and talks about the work they are doing together to raise funds and awareness for the fight against Cystic Fibrosis. At this morning's meeting, members in attendance had the opportunity to hear Leslie Blake, Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of McHenry County. Leslie discussed the impact just an hour a week over lunch can make in the life of a youth. Many have lost a parent or guardian for various reasons and are in need of someone with whom they can spend time and to be a constant in their lives. Big Brothers Big Sisters provides this opportunity. It not only benefits the youth, but can provide the adult with a feeling of fulfillment knowing that they are making a difference in the life of an individual.
Through the generosity of several donors, they are in the process of moving into a new facility that is in need of some renovating. They will gladly accept volunteers willing to help in this endeavor. They also have an upcoming fundraiser called "Bowling For Kids' Sake." The Habitat for Humanity home at 6303 Hillcrest in Cary is progressing nicely. They are still welcoming volunteers on site. Jack has arranged for a group of our membership to work on Saturday, February 24th. We will be gathering at the site at 8:30am. Be sure to dress warmly. One of President Steve's goals this year is to have at least one member join a Rotary Action Group or Rotary Fellowship Group. As stated on RI's website, a Rotarian Action Group is an autonomous group of Rotarians, family members, program participants and alumni who are experts in a particular field, such as micro-credit or water and sanitation.
