Joke of the Week

A dietician is lecturing an audience. "The food we eat is enough to have killed most of us years ago." he says. "Red meat is dangerous. Vegetables are often sprayed with pesticides, and our drinking water is frequently polluted. However, there is one foodstuff far more dangerous than all of them combined. Who can tell me what it is?" There's a long pause, then a man in the front row sticks his hand up and says, "Wedding cake?"

Rotary Club Installation
For now, save the date Monday, June 20th, for the Installation of Officers for the Rotary Club of Cary-Grove. It will again be held at Lake Julian Trout Farm. More information will follow regarding time and caterer.
Paul Harris Club Match Program
On February 7, 2022, the Board approved the Paul Harris Club-Match Program to members in good standing of the Rotary Club of Cary-Grove:
  1. Members who are not already a Paul Harris Fellow may make a cash donation up to $500. The club will match their contribution two-to-one up to $500* towards his/her first Paul Harris Fellow.  So, if you contribute $334 the club will match $668 = $1,002.
  2. Any member who is already a Paul Harris Fellow may make a cash donation up to $500*, and the club will match one-to-one towards his/her next Paul Harris level.
The program will run from 03/3/22 thru 05/14/22 and will be awarded at a suitable event.  This allows for 2022 income tax deductions.  Checks should be made payable to “The Cary-Grove Rotary Charitable Fund” and delivered to Pat Finlon.

*Paul Harris level advancements are in increments of $1,000, and there is a minimum contribution of $100 toward a club match.  Please contact Linda Trexler if you are interested in taking advantage of this program or need assistance in knowing how close you are to your achieving your first, or next, Paul Harris level advancement.

Nicaragua Water Project
(From former member, Bob Blumberg)

The attached are photos were taken during the past week of the Nicaraguans working on the water  project. It was delayed for quite a while until Rotary International got involved at our request. Now it seems to be chugging along at a good rate and the Club members in Nicaragua seem to be excited about the future. If anyone wants more detailed information, you can contact Melanie at melaniephe@aol.com.

Rotary Network
I've copied and pasted the verbiage from Governor Lyle's email that was sent earlier this morning. This is a great opportunity for you to get your business listed in the Rotary Business Directory. Simply click on the link below to add your establishment to the list:

"You might have heard that our District is partnering with D6450 and Rotary International on a pilot of a new opportunity for our members: The Rotary Network.

Rotary began as an opportunity for fellowship and to build business relationships that, ideally, would be advantageous to both parties.  The Rotary Network is solution for today, a way for Rotarians to help other Rotarians, and that's particularly welcome in these challenging times.  You and other Rotarians might be anxious about their business, or be looking for advice, connections, or even information about changing careers.  That's why The Rotary Network was created.  See the attached flyer and this video to learn more.

And if you're like me, retired, The Rotary Network is for you, too!  You can share your experience with other Rotarians, or provide guidance to a member that is looking for a change.  It's another way for us to be of service.

Please take a few minutes to check out therotarynetwork.org, and then list your business, add your comments, sign up as a mentor, or suggest other resources we should add.  The Rotary Network will only be as good as we together make it!"

Rotary Park Pavilion
Earlier this year, the Village of Cary announced its partnership with The Rotary Club of Cary-Grove in the development of a new park, "Cary Lake at Rotary Park". The Rotary Club is pleased to announce that it has begun soliciting donations for the construction of a picnic shelter that will be located near the main parking area of this facility. The pavilion will provide another feature to the park for the benefit of everyone that visits for many years to come. The estimated cost of this project is $70,000. The club is seeking the support of community members and local business owners in order to bring this to a quick, successful completion. Contributions are being accepted at the Club's Go Fund Me Page: http://gf.me/u/y6kq5f

Project updates will be posted to our website and FaceBook page as construction at the site progresses.

Rotary Action & Fellowship Groups
Rotarian Action Groups are autonomous groups of Rotarians, family members, program participants and alumni who are experts in a particular field, such as micro-credit or water and sanitation. More information about these groups and their purpose can be found on RI's website.

Rotary Fellowships are independent groups of Rotarians, family members, program participants and alumni who share a common passion. Being part of a fellowship is a fun way to make friends from around the world.  Again, more detailed information is available at this link to RI's website.

If you haven't all ready done so, take the time to click on the two links above and see if there may be a group that fits with your interests.  It's a great way to make new friends and to share common interests with Rotarians from around the world.
