As the end of the Rotary year draws near, it is once again time for us to put our collective heads together and recognize a member of the community that volunteers their time solely for the welfare of others. You can find a list of past recipients in the document section of clubrunner, as well as a form for submitting your candidate. Please download a copy and submit to Jack at your earliest convenience.
The April board meeting will be held at Lake Julian beginning at 6:00 PM. Please let Dave know if you are planning on attending so that he can have enough food available. All members are welcome.
The April Social Meeting will be held on Thursday, April 20th at Cucina Rustica, located in the former Galati's building at 7 Jandus Road. The event will begin at 6:30 PM. Please let Chuck know if you plan on attending.
At this morning's meeting, Chris Moore was officially installed as a member of the Rotary Club of Cary-Grove. Chris is sponsored by President, Jack Giel and is a welcome asset to the club. Congratulations, Chris!
Phil reported that the scholarship committee has identified two candidates for the District's Vocational Scholarship. Those names will be passed alone to the District for consideration.
There are still two tickets available for the Cubs vs Brewers game to be held on July 29th at Miller Field. The price is $75 a person, which includes the tailgate party before the game. If you are interested, contact Jack.

A Yankee was fishing off the coast of Florida when his boat capsized. He wouldn't swim to shore because he feared alligators, so he clung to the hull. When he spotted a cracker named Hump fishing off the dock, the Yankee shouted to him, "Are there any alligators in these waters?"
Hump replied, "Nope. There ain't been any in years.
The Yankee heaved a sigh of relief and, believing it was safe, he started swimming for shore. About halfway there, he asked the cracker, "How come there aren't any alligators here?"
This morning's members in attendance had the pleasure of listening to Carol Wells, District 6440 End Polio Now Chair. Carol presented a brief history and update on the End Polio Now Campaign. She reviewed the history of polio, highlighting Rotary International's partnering with the World Health Organization, UNICEF and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention in 1988. This newly formed partnership committed to eradicate Polio worldwide. There are still a few remote areas in Pakistan and neighboring Afghanistan experiencing outbreaks. Political unrest and conflict in these areas make it difficult to deliver the much needed vaccine.
Our club's support toward this effort has continued to be generous. Carol stressed that "Polio Eradication will be Rotary's Legacy to the World". Thanks to all who continue to support the campaign--no matter how small. We are very, very close to our goal.

One of President Steve's goals this year is to have at least one member join a Rotary Action Group or Rotary Fellowship Group. As stated on RI's website, a Rotarian Action Group is an autonomous group of Rotarians, family members, program participants and alumni who are experts in a particular field, such as micro-credit or water and sanitation. More information about these groups and their purpose can be found on RI's website.
Rotary Fellowships are independent groups of Rotarians, family members, program participants and alumni who share a common passion. Being part of a fellowship is a fun way to make friends from around the world. Again, more detailed information is available at this link to RI's website.
