Business owners and community leaders in Evanston, Illinois, USA, joined Rotary staff and family members in a celebration of the organization's cultural diversity at an open-house Rotary Day event at Rotary's world headquarters on 25 October. Seeing an elderly Tibetan woman weep with joy when cataract surgery restored her vision after 10 years is the kind of moment Dave Razo will never tire of.
For several summers Razo, a member of the Rotary Club of Warner Robins, Georgia, USA, traveled to rural northwest China with a team from Georgia-based nonprofit Gansu Inc., to provide free sight-restoring cataract surgery to some of the country's poorest residents. In 2012, after 22 years and 6,000 successful procedures, Gansu's founder, ophthalmologist William Conrad, retired and discontinued the organization's operations.
But Razo didn't...

Have a taste for eggs, but you don't have time to wait for them? Want to enjoy incredible Holiday recipes for under $2 a serving? These topics and more were shared by Ashley Richardson from the American Egg Board at the weekly meeting of the Rotary Club of Cary-Grove.
While eggs are commonly associated with breakfast and protein, many individuals aren't aware of the nutrient package the whole egg provides. Additionally, enjoying an egg a day can fall within current cholesterol guidelines. In fact, the American Heart Association includes one medium egg on its list of healthy foods for under $1, making eggs an inexpensive and delicious way for individuals to get these nutrients. According to Ashley, eggs contain thirteen essential vitamins and minerals, have about 70 calories each and only cost about 15 cents.
To see a list Holiday recipes and to learn more about the incredible story of the egg, visit their website at http://www.IncredibleEggs.org.

Three mice walked into a bar. The first mouse had a shot of whiskey and said, "When I see a mousetrap, I lie on my back and set it off with my foot. When the bar comes down, I catch it in my teeth, bench-press it twenty times to work up an appetite, and then make off with the cheese."
The second mouse drank two shots of whiskey and said, "Yeah, well, when I see rat poison, I collect as much as I can, take it home, grind it up into a powder, and add it to my coffee each morning so I can get a good buzz going for the rest of the day."
The third mouse said, "I can't stay long. I've got a date with the cat."
Home of the Sparrow is looking for individuals that would be willing to make a difference this Holiday Season. It is seeking gift cards to places like: grocery stores, gas stations, Walmart, Target, Kohls. By giving the gift of gift cards, moms can purchase what she needs for her family: a small gift for her children and practical items that she would go normally go without. HOS embraces women to take control of their lives and be an active participant in buying that special gift for her child. This would never be possible without the gift of gift cards.

As Rotarians, we end each of our weekly meetings by reciting The Four-Way Test. Building on the principles outlined in that document, we should also pay attention to the phrases outlined in the Rotary Code of Conduct:
As a Rotarian, I will
Exemplify the core value of integrity in all behaviors and activities
Use my vocational experience and talents to serve in Rotary
Conduct all of my personal, business, and professional affairs ethically, encouraging and fostering high ethical standards as an example to others
Be fair in all dealings with others and threat them with the respect due to them as fellow human beings
Promote recognition and respect for all occupations which are useful to society
Offer my vocational talents: to provide opportunities for young people, to work for the relief of the special needs of others, and to improve the qualify of life in my community
Honor the trust that Rotary and fellow Rotarians provide and not do anything that will bring disfavor or reflect adversely on Rotary or fellow Rotarians
Not seek from a fellow Rotarian a privilege or advantage not normally accorded others in a business or professional relationship
