A tentative date for Jack's memorial service has been set for June 4th. It will take place at First United Methodist Church, which is located in Crystal Lake. The time of the event is 1:00 PM.
As you know, the 2017 Rotary International Convention will take place in Atlanta from June 10-14. While every Rotary Convention is an exciting event, 2017 will be extra special because we will be celebrating the 100th Anniversary of The Rotary Foundation. As a matter of fact, it was in Atlanta at the 1917 Rotary Convention, that Rotary President Arch Klumph announced the formation of OUR foundation with the first contribution of $26.50.
In honor of Arch's birthday on June 6th, and in memory of the first donation, Rotary is offering a special registration fee of $265 - but only from May 28th to June 6th. After June 6th, the registration fee will increase to $340.
Today’s guest speaker was Brad Burgess from The Volunteer Center of McHenry County. Brad explained that The Volunteer Center is involved with strengthening local nonprofit organizations. Many of these entities are in need of volunteers or leadership development skills which are at the core of what his organization provides.
Annually, they provide learning experiences that develop board members, executive directors, development directors, volunteer managers and volunteers supporting local organizations. Their information and referral program helps nonprofits stay connected within their respective community. Member agencies post volunteer needs and donation needs with Volunteer Center of McHenry County who, in turn, communicates those needs through its website.
This year's installation dinner will again be hosted by Dave & Andi Miller and will be held at Lake Julian on June 28. During the event, incoming officers for the club will be installed. Please plan on attending this event as it is the "Official" recognition for the beginning of the new Rotary year. It also offers an opportunity to show support for the out-going board members.

Don't forget to get your nominations for the Jack Renskers Community Hope Award turned into Steve. The winning candidate will be announced at the Installation Dinner on June 28. Forms for this award can be found in theView Club Documents section of Clubrunner. However, you will probably be prompted to login to retrieve this document, so make sure you have you login information handy.
The May Social Evening Event will be held on Thursday, May 26 at The Village Squire in Crystal Lake. The event will start at 6:00 pm. Please let Sue know the number of guests that will be in your group.
The Rotary Club of Northbrook will be hosting the installation dinner for incoming District Govenor, Richard Rivkin. The event will take place on Saturday, June 25th at the Skokie Country Club located at 500 Washington Avenue, Glencoe. Register for the event at Northbrook's website.
In support of local farmers and vendors, The Rotary Club of Cary-Grove will be hosting a Farmers' Market on Sundays during the summer months beginning in June and running through September. The event will be held between the hours of 9:00 am - 1:00 PM in the Metra Parking lot, which is located in downtown Cary. The first Market will be held on June 5th.
The Rotary Club of Cary-Grove’s membership is a diverse group of individuals that work together to improve the communities of Cary and Fox River Grove. A fellow stopped at a rural gas station and, after filling his tank, he paid the bill and bought a soft drink. He stood by his car to drink his cola and he watched a couple of men working along the roadside. One man would dig a hole two or three feet deep and then move on. The other man came along behind and filled in the hole. While one was digging a new hole, the other was about 25 feet behind filling in the old. The men worked right past the fellow with the soft drink and went on down the road. "I can't stand this," said the man tossing the can in a trash container and heading down the road toward the men.
"Hold it, hold it," he said to the men. "Can you tell me what's going on here with this digging?"
"Well, we work for the county government, " one of the men said.
"But one of you is digging a hole and the other is filling it up. You're not accomplishing anything. Aren't you wasting the county's money?"
"You don't understand, mister," one of the men said, leaning on his shovel and wiping his brow. "Normally there's three of us--me, Rodney and Mike. I dig the hole, Rodney sticks in the tree and Mike here puts the dirt back."
"Yea," piped up Mike. "Now just because Rodney's sick, that don't mean we can't work, does it?"
One of President Steve's goals this year is to have at least one member join a Rotary Action Group or Rotary Fellowship Group. As stated on RI's website, a Rotarian Action Group is an autonomous group of Rotarians, family members, program participants and alumni who are experts in a particular field, such as micro-credit or water and sanitation. More information about these groups and their purpose can be found on RI's website.
Rotary Fellowships are independent groups of Rotarians, family members, program participants and alumni who share a common passion. Being part of a fellowship is a fun way to make friends from around the world. Again, more detailed information is available at this link to RI's website.

Though they were a long way from home, members of the Rotaract Club of Bugolobi, Uganda, felt confident they could tackle problems in rural Kanabulemu during their annual 1000 Smiles project.

More than a million refugees from Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan streamed into the European Union last year. Most entered via Greece after a harrowing raft trip across the Aegean Sea from Turkey.
