In Syria, where a civil war has been raging since 2011, more than 6,000 people flee the country every day. As of September, more than 4.1 million people have become refugees, and 7.6 million more have been internally displaced.

RI President K.R. Ravindran officially declared Ian H.S. Riseley Rotary International’s president-nominee on 1 October.
The nominating Committee for President of RI selected Riseley, of the Rotary club of Sandringham, Victoria, Australia, in August. He will be formally elected at the 2016 RI Convention in Seoul, Korea, and will become president on 1 July 2017.

The World Health Organization (WHO) announced on 25 September that Nigeria is now polio-free and has been officially removed from the list of countries where polio is endemic. It’s been 14 months since any cases of polio caused by the wild virus have been detected there.
With Nigeria’s historic achievement, polio remains endemic in only two countries: Afghanistan and Pakistan. That means transmission of the virus has never been stopped there.

A woman called the Canon help desk with a problem with her printer. The tech asked her if she was running it under "Windows." The woman responded, "No, my desk is next to the door. But that is a good point. The man sitting in the cubicle next to me is under a window and his printer is working fine,"
Special Thanks to Kevin Stevens, Rotary Club of North Chicago for grabbing the bull by the horns and organizing the 2015 District 6440 Rotary Tailgate party at Miller Park Stadium. This was not an easy task. Many hands were needed to make this a success, and in true Rotary spirit, many Rotarians stepped up to help setup tables, chairs, canopy and whatever was needed. Attending veterans were most appreciative of both the tailgate and being able to attend the game.
This being the first game in the final series of the season, it closed on a high note with the Cubs defeating the Brewers 6-1. Also, thanks to Sandi Waryck for securing our tickets and coordinating our club's participation. "Nice Job All"!
District Governor Rodney Adams will be the guest speaker at next week's weekly meeting. He will also be meeting with the board members on Wednesday evening, October 14th, at the Onion Pub located at 22221 N Pepper Road, Lake Barrington. That meeting will begin at 6:00p.m.

The Rotary Club of Cary-Grove will be conducting a Winter Farmer's Market beginning Sunday, October 4th. The event will be held in-doors at the Algonquin Township offices located at 3702 U.S. Highway 14, Crystal Lake Illinois. The market will be located in building #6 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. on the first and third Sundays of the month.
The Rotary Club of Cary-Grove’s membership is a diverse group of individuals that work together to improve the communities of Cary and Fox River Grove. Today's special guest was 2005 - 2006 Youth Exchange Student Germana Dalberto. Germana joined us via "Skype" from Jerusalem where she is working on her PH.D.. Her curriculum is focused on Palestine. Germana spoke to the club briefly on an idea she has for a new joint International project. As next year's Rotary focus is on Literacy, Germana is suggesting a joint venture with her Father's Rotary club in Rio Grande du Sol. It is suggested that this be a "hands-on" project with 5-10 members traveling to Brazil to assist in the construction of a library. Currently, there isn't a library available for adults in their area and Germana and the Rotarians there would like to do something about that. Steve & Germana will provide more details as they become available, but for now if you are thinking this sounds interesting, update you inoculations and brush up on your Portuguese.
As Rotarians, we end each of our weekly meetings by reciting The Four-Way Test. Building on the principles outlined in that document, we should also pay attention to the phrases outlined in the Rotary Code of Conduct:
