Harry and Tom are adrift in a lifeboat. Harry finds a lamp and, giving it the customary rub, is not surprised when a genie appears. The genie apologizes to Harry and Tom and says that, due to cut-backs, it can only grant them one wish. Harry doesn't think, he just knows he's thirsty so he blurts out, "Turn the entire ocean into beer!"

 

The genie claps its hands, the salt water changes to beer, and the genie vanishes. There's a pregnant pause as Harry and Tom consider their new circumstances. Tom looks at Harry with disgust, "Well isn't that great," he says. "Now we're going to have to pee in the boat." 

The August Social Meeting will be held on Thursday, August 17th at the No Wake Bar and Grill located at 99 Kazimour Drive, Lake Barrington. The event will begin at 6:30PM. Be sure to notify Chuck if you are planning on attending.

The September Board Meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 6th at the Cary Family Restaurant. The meeting will begin at 6:30AM

Fall Training for Rotary District 6440 will be conducted in the Wojcik Center located at Harper College, 1200 W Algonquin Road, Palatine. This year's "Cary Main Street Fest" will be held on Saturday & Sunday, September 16 & 17th.  We will again be hosting the "Steak Fry" dinner on Saturday, which will be catered by Brett Coleman of "Coleman's in the Park". We need volunteers between the hours of 5:00PM & 8:00PM. Advanced Tickets are $35 per person. Contact Dave Miller to get yours. The proceeds from this year's event will benefit The Cary Food Pantry.

Rotary's "End Polio Now Day" will be celebrated on October 24th this year. District 6440 is asking each club to look for ideas/opportunities to raise awareness within their respective communities. Pass your ideas onto President Pat.

The club has a new domain name for its website. The old domain carygroverotary.org expired, and we are not able to retrieve it. So, as of yesterday, our new domain is www.rotaryclubofcarygrove.org. Changes are being made to all printed club documents that had the old URL. For your purposes, please use the new address when referring folks to our website. It's easy to remember, rolls of the tongue easier than our clubrunner URL. The new URL is pointed to our website, which resides on clubrunner.  So, its a seamless transition. Only one site to maintain.

One of President Steve's goals this year is to have at least one member join a Rotary Action Group or Rotary Fellowship Group.  As stated on RI's website, a Rotarian Action Group is an autonomous group of Rotarians, family members, program participants and alumni who are experts in a particular field, such as micro-credit or water and sanitation. More information about these groups and their purpose can be found on RI's website.

 

Rotary Fellowships are independent groups of Rotarians, family members, program participants and alumni who share a common passion. Being part of a fellowship is a fun way to make friends from around the world.  Again, more detailed information is available at this link to RI's website.
