Today's guests were Dennis Snyder from the Rotary Club of Buffalo Grove, promoting their "Yellow Duckie" race over Labor Day weekend and Chuck Barrett, potential new club member.
The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony will be held this Sunday at 10:00 am. All members are asked to be in attendance with their Rotary shirts proudly displayed. The ceremony will take place promptly at 10:00, so plan on arriving by 9:45 am.
Today's program was a classification talk by Bob Blumberg. Bob grew up on the North Side of Chicago in the Albany Park area. After graduating from Roosevelt High School, he attended the University of Chicago at Navy Pier, which at that time was only a two-year school. He graduated from Roosevelt University majoring in business, and later completed & passed his CPA exam.
After doing internal audits for the Pick Hotel Corporation for a few years, Bob decided he wanted to try something different. He spent 2 1/2 years in the Peace Corps, serving mostly in the South America regions of Venezuela and Bolivia. it is in Bolivia where he met his wife, Kathy. Bob & Kathy relocated to Fox River Grove in 1978 where he began his current CPA practice. Two years later, he moved his office to Cary where he met Tom Decker, his landlord. Tom convinced Bob that he should join Rotary, and in 1981 he became a proud member of the Rotary Club of Cary-Grove.
In 1992, Bob found himself back in Venezuela as the District's Group Study Exchange team leader. He looks back on his 35 years in Rotary as a special time. He is proud of the accomplishments of Rotary and grateful for the opportunities it has presented to him.
This year's installation dinner will again be hosted by Dave & Andi Miller and will be held at Lake Julian on June 28. During the event, incoming officers for the club will be installed. Please plan on attending this event as it is the "Official" recognition for the beginning of the new Rotary year. It also offers an opportunity to show support for the out-going board members.

Our District Governor's Board Meeting will be held on Wednesday, July 13 this year. The time and place is yet to be determined, but for now, all board members and committee members should reserved this date. DG Rick Rivkin will meet with the entire membership during our weekly meeting on Thursday, July 14. Please plan on attending this meeting to learn more about Rick's plan for the Rotary year.
In support of local farmers and vendors, The Rotary Club of Cary-Grove will be hosting a Farmers' Market on Sundays during the summer months beginning in June and running through September. The event will be held between the hours of 9:00 am - 1:00 PM in the Metra Parking lot, which is located in downtown Cary. The first Market will be held on June 5th.
The Rotary Club of Cary-Grove’s membership is a diverse group of individuals that work together to improve the communities of Cary and Fox River Grove. Nigel and Stephen, are keen fishermen and wine drinkers; here you can see a photo taken while they are enjoying some night fishing while on holiday, with their wives, in Poitou-Charente, France, last year. Slurping a large Bordeaux Supérieur, Nigel announces, "I think I'm going to divorce my wife, she hasn't spoken to me in eighteen months." Stephen downs his glass of the red wine thoughtfully and after a while responds, "Think it over a bit more, Nigel; women like that are hard to find!"
One of President Steve's goals this year is to have at least one member join a Rotary Action Group or Rotary Fellowship Group. As stated on RI's website, a Rotarian Action Group is an autonomous group of Rotarians, family members, program participants and alumni who are experts in a particular field, such as micro-credit or water and sanitation. Rotary Fellowships are independent groups of Rotarians, family members, program participants and alumni who share a common passion. Being part of a fellowship is a fun way to make friends from around the world. Again, more detailed information is available at this link to RI's website.

Rotary International has selected Raptim Humanitarian Travel as its official travel management company.
The connection between Raptim and Rotary will allow them to offer more services and support to those traveling on Rotary business.
"In selecting Raptim, we found an agency that shared our DNA and understood how best to meet the needs of our volunteers and staff," says Robert Mintz, Rotary's global travel manager.
