The five districts that contribute the most district designated funds (DDFs) to support the Miles to End Polio fundraising goal will have a representative from their district recognized in front of thousands of fellow Rotary members.

Today's Guest Speaker was Carol Dolan from the Friends of the Fox River Grove Library. The Rotary Club of Cary-Grove was able to secure a Matching Grant of $2,000, which club President Steve Cherveny presented to Carol at there weekly meeting this morning. The Rotary club has been supporting the Friends of the Fox River Grove Library since 2008. This year's contribution will allow the library to continue the "Young Authors Project", their "Summer Reading Program" as well as allow them to add a "Middle School Book Club".
It was autumn, and the Indians on the remote reservation asked their new Chief if the winter was going to be cold or mild. Since he was a new Indian Chief in a modern society, he had never been taught the old secrets, and when he looked at the sky, he couldn't tell what the weather was going to be. Nevertheless, to be on the safe side, he replied to his tribe that the winter was indeed going to be cold and that the members of the village should collect wood to be prepared.
But also being a practical leader, after several days he got an idea. He went to the phone booth, called the National Weather Service and asked,"Is the coming winter going to be cold?" "It looks like this winter is going to be quite cold indeed," the meteorologist at the weather service responded.
So the Chief went back to his people and told them to collect even more wood in order to be prepared. A week later he called the National Weather Service again. "Is it going to be a very cold winter?" "Yes," the man at National Weather Service again replied, "it's going to be a very cold winter."
The Chief again went back to his people and ordered them to collect every scrap of wood they could find. Two weeks later he called the National Weather Service again. "Are you absolutely sure that the winter is going to be very cold?" "Absolutely," the man replied. "It's going to be one of the coldest winters ever."
"How can you be so sure?" the Chief asked. The weatherman replied, "The Indians are collecting wood like crazy!"
Sandy announced that our annual Christmas Party will be held on Thursday, December 10, 2015 at the Onion Pub. We will start at 6:30 PM. More will follow as menu selections have yet to be finalized.
The Club will be working with District 6440 to update the Strategic Plan that it developed in 2007. The tentative date set for that planning session is January 18, 2016. All Club Members are encouraged to attend this session. Recommendations adopted at that session will be the foundation for future club endeavors. Please plan on attending this very important meeting. Details of time and location will be forthcoming.

Now until November 13th, they will be collecting hard candy to be shipped for Christmas to Military serving our country
They will be receiving their annual Letters to Santa next week and will hope to have them available at next week's meeting
They are running their annual Coat Drive from now until November 14th (Coats, Hats Mittens, Scarves)
They are hosting a Veterans Day Breakfast on November 11 in the cafeteria for Veterans who are serving, or have served, in the military RSVP to the high school by 11/9/15
They are serving at the Fox River Grove Lioness Pasta Dinner
Assisting senior citizens at the Three Oaks Assisted Living Vendors holiday shopping
They are looking for used iPod Shuffles for use by senior residents
They are participating in Community Day by helping senior citizens with such things as leaf raking, window washing, etc.

The Rotary Club of Cary-Grove will be conducting a Winter Farmer's Market beginning Sunday, October 4th. The event will be held in-doors at the Algonquin Township offices located at 3702 U.S. Highway 14, Crystal Lake Illinois. The market will be located in building #6 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. on the first and third Sundays of the month.
The Rotary Club of Cary-Grove’s membership is a diverse group of individuals that work together to improve the communities of Cary and Fox River Grove. If you are interested in learning more, or in getting involved, come as our guest to one of our morning meetings. We meet on Thursdays beginning at 7:30 a.m. at the Cary Park District located at 255 Briargate Road, Cary Illinois. Visitors are always welcome.
Today's special guest was 2005 - 2006 Youth Exchange Student Germana Dalberto. Germana joined us via "Skype" from Jerusalem where she is working on her PH.D.. Her curriculum is focused on Palestine. Germana spoke to the club briefly on an idea she has for a new joint International project. As next year's Rotary focus is on Literacy, Germana is suggesting a joint venture with her Father's Rotary club in Rio Grande du Sol. It is suggested that this be a "hands-on" project with 5-10 members traveling to Brazil to assist in the construction of a library. Currently, there isn't a library available for adults in their area and Germana and the Rotarians there would like to do something about that. Steve & Germana will provide more details as they become available, but for now if you are thinking this sounds interesting, update you inoculations and brush up on your Portuguese.
As Rotarians, we end each of our weekly meetings by reciting The Four-Way Test. Building on the principles outlined in that document, we should also pay attention to the phrases outlined in the Rotary Code of Conduct:
