Rotary members and our partners in the fight to eradicate polio offer our heartfelt condolences and express a deep sadness in the wake of a horrific bomb attack in Quetta, Pakistan, that took the lives of at least 15 security personnel on 13 January. This tragic attack outside a polio immunization center is a stark reminder of the dangers faced by Rotary, our partners in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, and the brave women and men on the front lines of our effort to protect all children from the paralyzing effects of polio. While the bombing will be investigated, one thing is clear:...

Farewell Dear Jack...
Sadly, the Rotary Club of Cary-Grove has lost it's last charter member, Jack Renskers.  On Saturday, December 12th, Jack went into cardiac arrest and was later removed from life support.  All those who knew Jack feel a tremendous loss.  He exemplified what it means to be "A Rotarian" and not just "in Rotary".  It is apparent that "The Four Way Test" and "Spirit of Rotary" were foremost in his decisions and actions.

When our club was chartered back on January 21, 1970, Jack was a part of the founding membership and remained an Active Member in Rotary long into his retirement.  Even as his health began to fail, he would try to make as many of our social events as possible.  A special thank you goes out to his friend, Cindi Williams, for helping him to stay connected and keeping us informed of his status.

Jack's Obituary can be found on Kahle-Moore Funeral Home's Website.  Memorials may be made in Jack's name by downloading The Memorial or Tribute Gift Form from Rotary International's website.
Today's Guests
Today's guests were Interact Students Keaton May, Maggie Cherveny & Michael Arensberg.  The group discussed some of their upcoming collection programs, which included the collection of Books, Sunglasses and Prom Dresses.
Today's Winner
Today's big winner was Pat Finlon who did not draw the black tee, but he did contribute the side bets back to the End Polio Now Campaign.  Thank you, Pat.
Today's Program
Today's program was a review of the items developed at Monday night's planning session.  A copy of the summary for this plan can be found in the "Club Documents" section of clubrunner.  Next steps are naming chair positions for each area and the development of achievable steps for each objective.  Thanks to Jack for organizing this with the District's Vision Training Team.
Joke of the Week
During the Super Bowl, there was another football game of note between the big animals and the little animals. The big animals were crushing little animals and at half-time, the coach made a passionate speech to rally the little animals. At the start of the second half the big animals had the ball. The first play, the elephant got stopped for no gain. The second play, the rhino was stopped for no gain. On third down, the hippo was thrown for a 5 yard loss. The defense huddled around the coach and he asked excitedly, "Who stopped the elephant?" "I did," said the centipede. "Who stopped the rhino?" "Uh, that was me too," said the centipede. "And how about the hippo? Who hit him for a 5 yard loss?" "Well, that was me as well," said the centipede. "So where were you during the first half?" demanded the coach. "Well," said the centipede, "I was having my ankles taped."

Century Raffle
This year's reverse raffle will be held at Galati's on March 16, 2016.  Tickets for this event where distributed at the January 7th weekly meeting.  If you were not present, please contact Steve Moore so that he can arrange to drop off your tickets.  The focus for club membership this year is to sell their tickets and also get people to attend the event.  While the money received from ticket sales represents the major portion of revenue for this event, the side raffles have potential for making this event even more successful.
Rotary Action & Fellowship Groups
One of President Steve's goals this year is to have at least one member join a Rotary Action Group or Rotary Fellowship Group.  As stated on RI's website, a Rotarian Action Group is an autonomous group of Rotarians, family members, program participants and alumni who are experts in a particular field, such as micro-credit or water and sanitation. More information about these groups and their purpose can be found on RI's website.

Rotary Fellowships are independent groups of Rotarians, family members, program participants and alumni who share a common passion. Being part of a fellowship is a fun way to make friends from around the world.  Again, more detailed information is available at this link to RI's website.

If you haven't all ready done so, take the time to click on the two links above and see if there may be a group that fits with your interests.  It's a great way to make new friends and to share common interests with Rotarians from around the world.

Rotary Code of Conduct
As Rotarians, we end each of our weekly meetings by reciting The Four-Way Test.  Building on the principles outlined in that document, we should also pay attention to the phrases outlined in the Rotary Code of Conduct:

As a Rotarian, I will
  1. Exemplify the core value of integrity in all behaviors and activities
  2. Use my vocational experience and talents to serve in Rotary
  3. Conduct all of my personal, business, and professional affairs ethically, encouraging and fostering high ethical standards as an example to others
  4. Be fair in all dealings with others and threat them with the respect due to them as fellow human beings
  5. Promote recognition and respect for all occupations which are useful to society
  6. Offer my vocational talents: to provide opportunities for young people, to work for the relief of the special needs of others, and to improve the qualify of life in my community
  7. Honor the trust that Rotary and fellow Rotarians provide and not do anything that will bring disfavor or reflect adversely on Rotary or fellow Rotarians
  8. Not seek from a fellow Rotarian a privilege or advantage not normally accorded others in a business or professional relationship
