Attendees at this morning's meeting were fortunate to hear a bit about our newest member, Chris Moore. Chris grew up in the West Virginia Countryside where he loved racing go carts. So much so, that he was good enough to compete out-of-state.
Upon completion of high school, Chris set off to college at West Virginia University Tech. Following a path in Chemistry he moved on to the University of Virginia. With the support of an encouraging woman, Michelle who he later married, he pursued a career in Environmental Chemistry and the effects of Mercury in the environment. This path kept him moving around a great deal--Shenandoah National Park, Greenland, California, Alaska are just a few.
After focusing on Mercury in the environment, Chris changed his career to the effects of gasses in the Environment. This change moved his family to Cary, Illinois where he now works as Senior Scientist for Gas Technology Institute in Des Plaines. Please take the time to introduce yourself to Dr. Chris Moore. Don't let that "Dr." title fool you. He's a very down-to-earth fun person to be around.
The club has a new domain name for its website. The old domain carygroverotary.org expired, and we are not able to retrieve it. So, as of yesterday, our new domain is www.rotaryclubofcarygrove.org. Changes are being made to all printed club documents that had the old URL. For your purposes, please use the new address when referring folks to our website. It's easy to remember, rolls of the tongue easier than our clubrunner URL. The new URL is pointed to our website, which resides on clubrunner. So, its a seamless transition. Only one site to maintain.
This year's Installation Dinner is scheduled for Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at 6:00PM. As in the past, we will be meeting at Lake Julian Trout Farm, 65 Northwest Highway, Cary, IL. The event will be catered by Bret Coleman owner of Coleman's in the Park. Please RSVP to Dave Miller if you will be in attendance along with any family members or guests you may be bringing.
The installation dinner for incoming District Governor, Donald Brewer will be held on Wednesday, June 28th. The event will be held at Cotillion Banquets in Palatine and will begin with Cocktails & hors d'oeuvres at 6:00PM. Registration for this event is at eventzilla. Cost is $45 per person.
A millionaire is out driving in his Rolls-Royce when he spots two men on the roadside eating handfuls of grass. "The millionaire stops and asks them why they were eating the grass. One of President Steve's goals this year is to have at least one member join a Rotary Action Group or Rotary Fellowship Group. As stated on RI's website, a Rotarian Action Group is an autonomous group of Rotarians, family members, program participants and alumni who are experts in a particular field, such as micro-credit or water and sanitation. Rotary Fellowships are independent groups of Rotarians, family members, program participants and alumni who share a common passion. Being part of a fellowship is a fun way to make friends from around the world. Again, more detailed information is available at this link to RI's website.

When Teguest Yilma helped found the Rotary Club of Addis Ababa Entoto in 2002, she thought polio had already been eradicated from most of the world.
