Zach Taylor, 2012 Decker Scholarship Recipient attended the meeting this morning and gave an overview of the many activities with which he has been involved. It's hard to believe, but Zach is in his second semester of Junior year at the University of Illinois. Zach is double majoring in Supply Management and Technology. He will be working an internship this summer. In addition to staying active in school events, he also taught a Freshmen Class this past semester covering Freshmen Responsibilities. He will be returning to U of I this weekend for the second semester. We look forward to hearing from him in the summer.
Today's meeting was Club Assembly. Dave discussed items brought up at the board meeting:
Young Authors Program - Sue reported that the Friends of the Fox River Grove Library will be holding its "Young Authors Program" on February, 28. They are looking for volunteers to act as judges for this year's event. Jack, Alan, Phil and Steve volunteered to read essays and function as judges for this event. We still need a volunteer to represent the club at the ceremony event.
AG Jim Wales reported that there are still openings for the two District Guatemala trips. The dates for the trips are February 14 and February 28.
Steve Moore reported that 85 tickets have been distributed for sale. He has 15 tickets unspoken for. Each Rotarian is asked to bring a bottle of wine and a six-pack of craft beer to be used for the wine/beer raffle that evening.
Sue reported that the club has budgeted for 8 students to attend this year's RYLA event. Jim Kelly currently has 4 names selected. Because of the registration deadline, Sue will be delivering a check for those 4 to Jim. He contact her if others wish to attend.
Joe M is working on the schedule for guest speakers. He will be including classification talks for the newer members in the schedule.
Ted reported that he will be hosting a "New Member Orientation" meeting at his house on February 9 beginning at 6:30PM.
The Rotary Club of Cary-Grove will be holding a raffle on March 11, 2015 to raise money for its Charitable Fund. The event will be held at Galati's Hideaway located at 800 Feinberg Ct in Cary beginning at 7:00 PM.
Proceeds from the event will help finance the club's scholarship program and other contributions to local charities. Scholarships are awarded to both degree-seeking students and to those pursuing vocational schooling.
The Grand prize cash award is $3,500. Second-prize award is $500, plus there will be 10 - $100 winners. Only 100 tickets will be sold. Admission is free with purchased ticket, and appetizers will be provided. Raffle tickets can be purchased in advance by contacting Steve Moore at 847-639-3817. The Cary-Grove Rotary Charitable Fund is a 501c3 organization.
The Rotary Club of Cary-Grove will be conducting a Winter Farmer's Market beginning Sunday, October 9th. The event will be held in-doors at the Algonquin Township offices located at 3702 U.S. Highway 14, Crystal Lake Illinois. The market will be located in building #6 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. on the first and third Sundays of the month. A flyer for this event and list of participating vendors can be downloaded from the "Download" section of this website.
The Rotary Club of Cary-Grove’s membership is a diverse group of individuals that work together to improve the communities of Cary and Fox River Grove.
