Club members gathered last night at New China in Fox River Grove for our monthly evening social. Everyone had a fun time. Both the food & service were outstanding! What a great way to kick off the Chinese New Year. The evening was highlighted by recognizing Chuck Barrett as a Paul Harris fellow and Kevin Tobin for increasing his Paul Harris level by making an additional $1,000 contribution to the Rotary Foundation. Thanks to Sandi for putting this evening together.
As discussed last week, I will be making a Clubrunner presentation at our weekly meeting on January 23rd. I will be presenting an overview of this program specifically addressing how it relates to the administrative and operational functions of our club. I will also discuss how you can download and use the CR app on your smart phone.
This is intended to be a "hands-on" session, so bring your laptop or tablet with you. Sometime before that date, make sure that you can sign-in to Clubrunner. If you've forgotten your password, let me know prior to January 23rd, and I will send you a new one.
For a 24-hour period beginning 6:00pm, February 16th and ending 6:00pm, February 17th, Rotary members in District 6440 are encouraged to perform "Random Acts of Kindness". The purpose of this event is to publicize the good works that Rotarians are doing globally as well as locally within our own communities. A random act of kindness or RAoK is a selfless act performed by a person to either help or cheer up a random stranger for no reason other than to make that person happier. Some examples listed on Happyologist’s website are, dropping off donuts to non-profit organization volunteers, hold the door for someone, offer to help someone with a project, let someone go past you at the grocery store, send flowers to someone that might need a spiritual lift, clean up someone else’s mess, or compliment a stranger.
Please send any photos of RAoK to me, and I will get them uploaded to our website and FB page.
Two accountants are in a bank when armed robbers burst in. While several of the robbers take the money from the tellers, others line up the customers, including the accountants, and proceed to take their wallets, watches, etc. While this is going on, the first accountant jams something into the second accountant's hand. Without looking down, the second accountants whispers, "What is this?" To which the first accountant replies, "It's the $50 I owe you."
Members of the Rotary Club of Cary-Grove present a check to the Cary-Grove Food Pantry, located at St. Barnabas Lutheran Church in Cary. Funds for the presentation were raised at the Club's "Steak Fry", which was held at Cary's "Main Street Fest" this past September. A special thanks to all those who attended that event, which made this donation possible.
For now, save the date Tuesday, April 28, 2020 for our annual Century Reverse Raffle. Steve is confirming with The Cary Country Club and more information will be forthcoming as details are finalized.
The schedule for Greeter/Fines & Frolics is located on the left side of the bulletin under the banner "Meeting Responsibilities". That schedule will be updated on a weekly basis from the information provided on the meeting's weekly agenda. So, if you're not at the meeting, be sure to read the current bulletin to see if you are tagged for any responsibilities.
Bill Gates was the guest speaker at the Joint Rotary District Conference in Spokane Washington. Follow this link to his blog where he has the entire text of what he had to say.
This mornings guest speaker was Larry Kanar from the Rotary Club of Northbrook. Larry updated the membership on the status of District 6440's Rotary Health Rays project in Guatemala. Each unit costs $75,000. Our district has raised more than $650,000 in funds pledged as of 10/10/17 to bring digital x-ray technology to Guatemala. The plan is to install 29 digital x-ray machines in areas throughout Guatemala. As of today, 11 have already been installed. In our district, over 50 clubs have already signed to support the project, and they are hoping for 100% participation. To learn more about this project, please visit the District's website.
Looking for something to do this weekend? Check out McHenry County Living's Upcoming Events. Might not be Rotary related, but attending sure will "build good will and better friendships."
Need a makeup but find it difficult to get to another club? If so, consider using Rotary's Web-based Rotary eClub One. Click on the link and go to the "Makeups" tab to get started. Doing makeups could be easier. Let us know how you like it.
