A tentative date for Jack's memorial service has been set for June 4th. It will take place at First United Methodist Church, which is located in Crystal Lake. The time of the event is 1:00 PM.
Today’s guest speaker was Brad Burgess from The Volunteer Center of McHenry County. Brad explained that The Volunteer Center is involved with strengthening local nonprofit organizations. Many of these entities are in need of volunteers or leadership development skills which are at the core of what his organization provides.
Annually, they provide learning experiences that develop board members, executive directors, development directors, volunteer managers and volunteers supporting local organizations. Their information and referral program helps nonprofits stay connected within their respective community. Member agencies post volunteer needs and donation needs with Volunteer Center of McHenry County who, in turn, communicates those needs through its website.
For the second year, Lamp Incorporated will be sponsoring a Jazz ensemble featuring the Elgin Symphony Orchestra and Mark Bettcher. For those not familiar with Mark's work, the last time Phil Collins toured, Mark was part of his orchestra. The event will take place on Tuesday, May 17 at the Hemmers Cultural Center located at 45 Symphony Way, Elgin. Registration information is available on the Rotary Club of Dundee's website.
This year's installation dinner will again be hosted by Dave & Andi Miller and will be held at Lake Julian on June 28. During the event, incoming officers for the club will be installed. Please plan on attending this event as it is the "Official" recognition for the beginning of the new Rotary year. It also offers an opportunity to show support for the out-going board members.

A man goes out and buys the best car available in the US or Europe, a 2001 Turbo BeepBeep. It is the best and most expensive car in the world, and it runs him $500,000. He takes it out for a spin and, while doing so, stops for a red light. An old man on a moped, both looking about 90 years old, pulls up next to him.
The old man looks over the sleek, shiny surface of the car and asks "What kind of car ya got there, sonny?". The dude replies "A 2001 Turbo BeepBeep. They cost $500,000." "That's a lotta money!" says the old man, shocked. "Why does it cost so much?" "Cause this car can do up to 320 miles an hour!" states the cool dude proudly. The old man asks "Can I take a look inside?" "Sure" replies the owner. So the old man pokes his head in the window and looks around. Leaning back on his moped, the old man says "That's a pretty nice car, alright!"
Just then the light changes, so the guy decides to show the old man what his car can do. He floors it, and within 30 seconds the speedometer reads 320. Suddenly, the guy notices a dot in his rear view mirror. It seems to be getting closer! Whhhoooooooooossssshhhhhh! Something whips by him! Going maybe three times as fast! The guy wonders "what on earth could be going faster than my Turbo BeepBeeP?" Then, ahead of him, he sees a dot coming toward him. Whooooooooooosh! Goes by again! And, it almost looked like the old man on the moped! Couldn't be thinks the guy. How could a moped outrun a Turbo BeepBeep? Again, he sees a dot in his rearview mirror! WhoooooooshhhhhhhhKa-BbbbblaMMMMM! It plows into the back of his car, demolishing the rear end.
The guy jumps out and discovers it is the old man! Of course, the moped and the old man are hurting for certain. The guy runs up to the dying old man and asks "You're hurt bad! Is there anything I can do for you?"
The old man replies "Yeah. Unhook my suspenders from the side-view mirror on your car!"

The event will be held in-doors at the Algonquin Township offices located at 3702 U.S. Highway 14, Crystal Lake Illinois. The market will be located in building #6 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 01:00 p.m. Beginning Sunday, June 5th, the Rotary Club will be sponsoring the Cary-Grove Summer Farmer's Market, which will be held every Sunday at the Metra Station located in downtown Cary.

One of President Steve's goals this year is to have at least one member join a Rotary Action Group or Rotary Fellowship Group. As stated on RI's website, a Rotarian Action Group is an autonomous group of Rotarians, family members, program participants and alumni who are experts in a particular field, such as micro-credit or water and sanitation. Rotary Fellowships are independent groups of Rotarians, family members, program participants and alumni who share a common passion. Being part of a fellowship is a fun way to make friends from around the world. Again, more detailed information is available at this link to RI's website.

After a series of three earthquakes -- two in Japan and one in Ecuador -- killed hundreds of people, injured thousands, and caused billions of dollars in damage late last week, Rotary members in those regions have created disaster relief funds to help survivors.
In Ecuador, the powerful 7.8-magnitude quake that struck Saturday night has killed more than 400 people, with 2,500 injured. Those figures are expected to rise.

Many of this year’s proposed changes are designed to increase membership by giving clubs greater flexibility in the timing and the nature of their meetings. Other proposals would amend membership requirements.
The Rotary Foundation and UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education are offering up to 10 scholarships for graduate study at UNESCO-IHE's Delft campus in the Netherlands. The aim is to increase the number of trained professionals who can devise, plan, and implement water and sanitation solutions in developing areas. The scholarships also are designed to promote long-term relationships between Rotary members and skilled water and sanitation professionals.

Interact clubs are making a positive difference in schools and communities around the world. Leaders of sponsor Rotary clubs and districts should make sure their Interact clubs get the recognition they deserve by verifying that they qualify for a Presidential Citation.
First, ensure that the Interact club status is active in Rotary's database by checking the Listing of Club-Sponsored Organizations report in Rotary Club Central. If a sponsored club is not listed, submit the Interact Club Certification Form by 1 March.
