Today's Guests
Today's guest was the new Cary-Grove High School Principal, Neil Lesinski.
Today's Winner
Today's winner was Sue, but she did not draw the black tee.  Steve Cherveny reports the big pot is over $500.
Welcome, Neil Lesinski
Our guest this morning was Neil Lesinski, the new principal at Cary-Grove High School. Neil expressed his appreciation and thanks to the club for its involvement with the Rotary Interact Group. In addition, he stressed a desire and willingness to build on the relationship that exists between our two entities. Of particular interest to both our groups is the idea of enhancing the vocational program at the High School. This could lead to a partnership between our club, McHenry County College and the High School on a program that has employee opportunities for the students at Cary-Grove.

We look forward to working with Neil on this and other future endeavors.
Joke of the Week

An elderly couple was driving across the country. While the woman was behind the wheel, the couple was pulled over by the highway patrol.

"Ma'am, did you know you were speeding?" the officer said. The woman, hard of hearing, turned to her husband and asked, "What did he say?" "He said you were speeding!" the old man yelled.

The patrolman then asked, "May I see your license?" The woman turned to her husband again, "What did he say? The old man yelled back, "He wants to see your license!" The woman then gave the officer her license.

"I see you are from Arkansas," the patrolman said. "I spent some time there once and went on a blind date with the ugliest woman I've ever seen."

The woman turned to her husband again and asked, "What did he say?" The old man replied, "He said he knows you!"

New Club URL!!
The club has a new domain name for its website. The old domain carygroverotary.org expired, and we are not able to retrieve it. So, as of yesterday, our new domain is www.rotaryclubofcarygrove.org. Changes are being made to all printed club documents that had the old URL. For your purposes, please use the new address when referring folks to our website. It's easy to remember, rolls of the tongue easier than our clubrunner URL. The new URL is pointed to our website, which resides on clubrunner.  So, its a seamless transition. Only one site to maintain.

Rotary Action & Fellowship Groups
One of President Steve's goals this year is to have at least one member join a Rotary Action Group or Rotary Fellowship Group.  As stated on RI's website, a Rotarian Action Group is an autonomous group of Rotarians, family members, program participants and alumni who are experts in a particular field, such as micro-credit or water and sanitation. More information about these groups and their purpose can be found on RI's website.

Rotary Fellowships are independent groups of Rotarians, family members, program participants and alumni who share a common passion. Being part of a fellowship is a fun way to make friends from around the world.  Again, more detailed information is available at this link to RI's website.

If you haven't all ready done so, take the time to click on the two links above and see if there may be a group that fits with your interests.  It's a great way to make new friends and to share common interests with Rotarians from around the world.

When we introduced Rotary Club Central in 2012, it revolutionized goal tracking and planning for clubs and districts — no more filling out paper club-planning forms or passing along boxes of historical club information every time a new leader took office. Rotary Club Central offered clubs and districts a quantifiable way to begin measuring local and global impact, specifically membership initiatives, service activities, and Rotary Foundation giving. But as with any technological advancement, in a few short years, Rotary Club Central began to show its age, and Rotarians took notice. They...

At its January 2017 meeting, the Rotary International Board of Directors adopted a new zone structure for Rotary clubs. Rotary bylaws require the Board to complete a comprehensive review of the 34 Rotary zones no less often than every eight years to ensure that each zone has an approximately equal number of Rotarians. The Board’s previous review of the zones occurred in 2008. The Board earlier approved the creation of three regional workgroups to develop rezoning proposals for Asia, Europe/Africa, and the Americas. These workgroups comprised one representative (either a current director,...

Through The Rotary Foundation, Rotary members have supported thousands of projects that promote peace, fight disease, provide clean water, save mothers and children, support education, and grow local economies. We’ve also led the fight to eradicate polio worldwide. As part of our celebration of the Foundation’s centennial, we’re honoring 20 global grant projects with special recognition. The Atlanta Host Organization Committee is offering some good old-fashioned Southern hospitality at the Rotary International Convention from 10 to 14 June. It has planned a wide range of activities featuring everything from good food and music to inspiring tours of local landmarks. If it’s your first convention, these events are chances to meet fellow Rotarians from around the world, and if you’re an experienced convention goer, you can catch up with old friends. Hall of Fame baseball player Hank Aaron will host Rotarians for a “Strike Out Polio” night at the new SunTrust Park, where you’ll...

When Teguest Yilma helped found the Rotary Club of Addis Ababa Entoto in 2002, she thought polio had already been eradicated from most of the world. But while Ethiopia had been free of the disease, Yilma was shocked to learn that new cases had started cropping up in surrounding countries such as Somalia. “I was thinking, it’s not possible, we can’t be free if the countries around us are not free,” she says. Yilma, the managing editor of Capital, Ethiopia’s largest English weekly newspaper, has brought a journalist’s skills to the fight against polio. She became vice chair of the Ethiopia...
