This morning's guests was former member, Bob Blumberg and guest speaker, Sam Tenuto, representing McHenry County Pads Project through Pioneer Center for Human Services.
We did not have a 50/50 Raffle this morning. The Paul Harris 50/50 Raffle is under review to find a way to make it available to all members during these ZOOM meetings. Also being considered are procedures for Fines & Frolics & Happy Dollars. The members reviewing this process are Ed Connelly, Pat Finlon, Sue Maifield, Steve Moore and Linda Trexler. Please contact any of these individuals if you have ideas to share while under review.
Sam Tenuto of Pioneer Center for Human Services was our guest at this morning's zoom meeting. Sam gave the club a quick overview of the new 70 bed facility that is being constructed for McHenry County PADS. The facility is not yet complete, but is currently being used on a limited basis. Fundraising for a commercial kitchen that will accommodate the preparation of meals for the residents is almost complete. This is a major goal as it will also be used to teach residents food preparation skills that can be utilized when relocating from the facility. Funds are also needed for additional projects being considered.
While most perceive PADS as being for adults only, there is also a need to provide shelter to families with children. The program at PADS is not a permanent solution, but is designed to give temporary assistance and training to allow residents to become self-sustaining. In their GoFundMe video, Carrie Freund reminds us that "most of us are one life event away from being homeless ourselves." McHenry County Police Charities Treasurer, Mike Foley, receives a check from the Rotary Club of Cary-Grove, presented by Rotarian, Chief Patrick Finlon. Individual Rotary Club members contributed to "Shop With A Cop", and the Club donated $500 making the total $1125.00. The presentation took place on January 10, 2021 at the Crystal Lake Wal-Mart just prior to shopping. Members of the Cary Police Department shopped with 10 children from five Cary families.
Sandi has organized our January 21st Evening Social at Jameson’s Charhouse located at 5016 Northwest Highway Crystal Lake, IL for 6:00 PM. Please let Sandi know either yes or no regarding your attendance, or register online. She needs to provide a headcount to the restaurant.
This guy goes into a bar and orders three separate shot glasses of Irish whiskey. He drinks all three. He does this day after day after day, and the bartender finally says, "You know, I can put all three of those shots into one glass for you."
The guy says, "No, I prefer it this way. You see, I have two brothers, they're over in Ireland, and I love them dearly. This glass right here is for Finnian and this one here is for Fergus, and this one is for me. This way, I can feel like we're all here together having a drink." And the guy continues to come in day after day, and the bartender continues to set up three glasses.
Then one day, the guy says, "Give me just two shots today." "What happened? Did something happen to one of your brothers?" asks the bartender. "No, no, no," says the guy. "They're okay. It's just that I decided to quit drinking."
Earlier this year, the Village of Cary announced its partnership with The Rotary Club of Cary-Grove in the development of a new park, "Cary Lake at Rotary Park". The Rotary Club is pleased to announce that it has begun soliciting donations for the construction of a picnic shelter that will be located near the main parking area of this facility. The pavilion will provide another feature to the park for the benefit of everyone that visits for many years to come. The estimated cost of this project is $70,000. The club is seeking the support of community members and local business owners in order to bring this to a quick, successful completion. Contributions are being accepted at the Club's Go Fund Me Page: http://gf.me/u/y6kq5f.
Project updates will be posted to our website and FaceBook page as construction at the site progresses.
I've copied and pasted the verbiage from Governor Lyle's email that was sent earlier this morning. This is a great opportunity for you to get your business listed in the Rotary Business Directory. Simply click on the link below to add your establishment to the list:
"You might have heard that our District is partnering with D6450 and Rotary International on a pilot of a new opportunity for our members: The Rotary Network.
Rotary began as an opportunity for fellowship and to build business relationships that, ideally, would be advantageous to both parties. The Rotary Network is solution for today, a way for Rotarians to help other Rotarians, and that's particularly welcome in these challenging times. You and other Rotarians might be anxious about their business, or be looking for advice, connections, or even information about changing careers. That's why The Rotary Networkwas created. See the attached flyer and this video to learn more.
And if you're like me, retired, The Rotary Network is for you, too! You can share your experience with other Rotarians, or provide guidance to a member that is looking for a change. It's another way for us to be of service.
Please take a few minutes to check out therotarynetwork.org, and then list your business, add your comments, sign up as a mentor, or suggest other resources we should add. The Rotary Networkwill only be as good as we together make it!"
Looking for something to do this weekend? Check out McHenry County Living's Upcoming Events. Might not be Rotary related, but attending sure will "build good will and better friendships."
Need a makeup but find it difficult to get to another club? If so, consider using Rotary's Web-based Rotary eClub One. Click on the link and go to the "Makeups" tab to get started. Doing makeups could be easier. Let us know how you like it.
Rotarian Action Groups are autonomous groups of Rotarians, family members, program participants and alumni who are experts in a particular field, such as micro-credit or water and sanitation. More information about these groups and their purpose can be found on RI's website.
Rotary Fellowships are independent groups of Rotarians, family members, program participants and alumni who share a common passion. Being part of a fellowship is a fun way to make friends from around the world. Again, more detailed information is available at this link to RI's website.
If you haven't all ready done so, take the time to click on the two links above and see if there may be a group that fits with your interests. It's a great way to make new friends and to share common interests with Rotarians from around the world.
After successfully establishing a presence in Great Britain and Ireland, Rotary expanded its reach to mainland Europe with the chartering of a club in Madrid, Spain, on New Year’s Day 1921.
