Tonight The Rotary Club of Cary-Grove held its monthly social night at New China Restaurant in FRG. Unfortunately, this is probably the last time most of us will step foot in this icon. New China will close for good at the end of the month. Gunna miss this place.
The club is again participating in the "Shop With a Cop" program. The club has agreed to match up to $500 toward club member donations. If you would like to participate, please make your checks payable to The Cary-Grove Rotary Charitable Fund and mail to PO Box 645, Cary, IL 60013. You may also contact Pat Finlon directly if you would prefer to drop off a check or have questions about the program. Contributions will be excepted up to December 5th.
The Fox River Grove Memorial Library will again be holding events for Elementary age children this year. Listed below are the dates and subject of each event. If interested in volunteering to help out at one of these events, contact Sue.
On September 20, 2021, the Board approved the Paul Harris Club-Match Program to members in good standing of the Rotary Club of Cary-Grove:
Members who are not already a Paul Harris Fellow may make a cash donation up to $500. The club will match their contribution two-to-one up to $500* towards his/her first Paul Harris Fellow. So, if you contribute $334 the club will match $668 = $1,002.
Any member who is already a Paul Harris Fellow may make a cash donation up to $500*, and the club will match one-to-one towards his/her next Paul Harris level.
The program will run from 10/06/21 thru 12/02/21 and will be awarded at a suitable event. This allows for 2021 income tax deductions. Checks should be made payable to “The Cary-Grove Rotary Charitable Fund” and delivered to Linda Trexler. In the event of her absence, checks may be delivered to Pat Finlon.
*Paul Harris level advancements are in increments of $1,000, and there is a minimum contribution of $100 toward a club match. Please contact Linda Trexler if you are interested in taking advantage of this program or need assistance in knowing how close you are to your achieving your first, or next, Paul Harris level advancement.
The club will be participating in the Salvation Army "Ring the Bell" Holiday program this year. The selected date is December 11th and the location will be at the Fox River Grove Jewel. Ed will be putting together a list of time slots for needed volunteers. For now, hold the date.
An eighty-year-old couple is having problems remembering things, so they go to the doctor to get checked out. They describe for the doctor the problems they are each having with their memory. After checking the couple out, the doctor tells them that they are physically okay, but that they might want to start writing things down to help them remember. The couple thanks the doctor and leaves. Later that night while watching TV, the old man gets up from his chair. His wife asks, "Where are you going?"
He replies, "To the kitchen." She asks him for a bowl of ice cream and he replies, "Sure." She then asks him, "Don't you think you should write it down so you can remember?" He says, "No, I can remember that." "Well," she then says, "I also would like some strawberries on top. You had better write that down 'cause I know you'll forget." He says, "I can remember that, you want a bowl of ice cream with strawberries."
"Well," she replies, "I also would like whipped cream on top. I know you will forget that, so you better write it down." With irritation in his voice, he says, "I don't need to write that down, I can remember that." He fumes off into the kitchen. When he returns twenty minutes later he hands her a plate of bacon and eggs. She stares at the plate for a moment and says, "You forgot my toast."
Earlier this year, the Village of Cary announced its partnership with The Rotary Club of Cary-Grove in the development of a new park, "Cary Lake at Rotary Park". The Rotary Club is pleased to announce that it has begun soliciting donations for the construction of a picnic shelter that will be located near the main parking area of this facility. The pavilion will provide another feature to the park for the benefit of everyone that visits for many years to come. The estimated cost of this project is $70,000. The club is seeking the support of community members and local business owners in order to bring this to a quick, successful completion.
