Many of us are volunteering this week for Thanksgiving Baskets - therefore I am going to cancel this Thursday's meeting. We won't be meeting the following Thursday due to it being Thanksgiving (wow, that came fast). We will next meet again on Zoom, Thursday, December 3rd. I will send Zoom information the Monday of that week.
All volunteer slots have been filled for the Thanksgiving basket progam!
From Shawn: I’d thank everyone for their support of the program and the desire to help those in need this year and all the previous years. Without them, this program would not be successful. This is the first year we have filled all the slots for boxes in quite a while.
Deenie is supporting the Rotary Club of Carol Stream's coat drive
This year probably more than ever people need coats and its a great opportunity for you to empty your closets. Winter hats and gloves will be accepted as well. The Rotary Club of Carol Stream @rotaryclubofcarolstream is again conducting it's annual Coat Drive. November 2, 2020 - Feb. 1, 2021. Clean out your closets now and give someone the gift of warmth this winter.
Our club member Deenie is helping in this effort - If you have coats to donate please drop them on her porch or let her know and she will pick them up! Email her for a reminder of her address if you need to. d.realestate@usa.net
From Steve Solomon, a past Ambassadorial Scholar that our club supported and former Rotary International amazing employee:
This past month, I have accepted the newly created position of Senior Individual Giving Officer with Howard Brown Health and start on Monday!
Howard Brown Health is one of the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) organizations operating 11 clinics throughout Chicago and 3 Brown Elephant resale shops. With an annual budget of over $145 million, the agency serves more than 35,000 adults and youth in its diverse health and social service delivery system focused around seven major programmatic divisions: primary medical care, behavioral health, research, HIV/STI prevention, youth services, elder services and community initiatives.
I have been a Howard Brown Health patient since 2008. Growing up my mom would frequently take me to the Brown Elephant resale shops and I fondly remember buying my homecoming suit there in 1994. Now it’s my turn to give back. I am very excited to take my knowledge and skills from working at Rotary and Center on Halsted to help further the mission of Howard Brown Health.
Our treasurer, Brian, went through the process of setting up Amazon Smile for the Rotary Foundation. Here is the link if you want to check it out: https://smile.amazon.com/ch/36-3653525
It's a great way to support our Foundation any time you are ordering from Amazon!
