Last week we met at Ernie Karge Rotary Green to celebrate the first Rotary Peace Pole instlled in Buffalo Grove. The message May Peace Prevail On Earth was authored by the late Masahisa Goi of Japan after the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Our peace pole has this message in 12 languages spoken in our community. Peace poles are an international message of peace, with over 250,000 Peace Poles in every country worldwide. Thank you to all involved in this project, especially Past President Juliet who spearheaded the project, and including the Public Works employees who did an amazing job with the installation and the landscaping. Also, thank you to all who attending the ceremony, including State Senator Johnson, who is an honorary member of our club, several Village Trustees and President Smith, a club Rotarian.
We also awarded the grand prize from the duck race to Jerry's neighbors, the Bozeks. Congratulations!
Thank you to all of the Rotarians (Ilya, Cass, Diane and Steve, Jason, Joan, Bruce, Dan, Hetal, Jing and Martha) who volunteered this past Sunday to help at our Rotary booth where, at Glenn's leadership, we collected many, many items that are now being recycled to be kept out of landfills. Special thanks to Diane and her husband who took 90% of the batteries collected to be recycled at a Arlington Heights' recycling center.

Thank you to those club members who continue to contribute to the Buffalo Grove High School Comfort Closet. This is a discreet service at the high school to assist those students who do not experience the privilege of all they need for personal hygiene and care at home due to circumstances. Please keep us in mind for your donations of these new, unused items you may have at home. Such items are: toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, lotion, feminine products, deodorant, etc. Also, your cash donations to Deenie on their behalf are so appreciated and make a difference in their life. Items are purchased at GiveNKind for pennies on the dollar. Please bring donations to our Rotary meetings and Deenie will collect them.
