Last Week's Meeting
John Alan Boryk is a quiet but compelling soul who has experienced profound personal change in his life and describes himself as  "recovering racist." His upbringing in the segregated South in no way prepared him for an integrated college in Aurora in 1965, nor the nearly overpowering experience of hearing Dr. Martin Luther King preach.  A week after meeting Dr. King, Boryk was one of hundreds marching across the Edmund Pettus bridge from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama.  In 2015, John returned to Selma for the fiftieth anniversary of the heroic marches.  He shared his thoughts and feelings about the history of racism in our country and its present state today.  Boryk, a Park Ridge Rotarian, explained how white privilege continues to shape individual attitudes and government policy in ways too many white people never stop to think about.   He is a very thought-provoking speaker.
Thank You Pete for a Great Oscars Party
Thanks to Pete for a great evening that some of our club members were lucky enough to attend to watch the Oscars and enjoy a delicious dinner at his restaurant during his charity and social event.   We are so happy that he was recently presented with a very well deserved village proclamation commending him for his philanthropic contributions to the Village of Buffalo Grove.
