Wheaton Club's Trivia Night February 27
Here is a chance for our Buffalo Grove Rotarians to show our trivia expertise at a virtual trivia night hosted by the Wheaton Rotary Club on February 27 from 7-9 pm.  See below for details.  Team members, up to 10, will be assigned chat rooms to discuss answers and then submit them.  Please contact Jing O'Brian to sign up.  She will register and you can pay her later ($10 per person for a team of 10). Should be fun!
District 6440 is Offering Vocational Scholarships

OBJECTIVE - To provide educational opportunities for men and women in District 6440 who are preparing for careers that do not require a Baccalaureate Degree.  Aid is given to defray costs associated with programs that prepare for immediate entry into a career field (e.g., Associate of Applied Science Degree, Trade School Diploma, Certificate, License.)

NUMBER OF SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS

Approximately ten (10) scholarships in the amount of $1,500 each will be awarded to full-time students enrolled in a vocational program at an accredited school. This award will be used for tuition only, NOT for fees, books, tools, supplies, food, travel, or personal expense. Each club may submit two applicants.  Half of the scholarships will be awarded to students attending 501(c)(3) nonprofit educational institutions (Community Colleges) and the others will have no such  limitations.
The duration of the scholarship will be one year. Students must claim funds within 12 months of the award date. Students are to submit enrollment notification and tuition bill immediately after registration. All funds from the scholarship will only be paid directly to the institution they attend. Awards not claimed within 12 months of the award date will be forfeited.

ELIGIBILITY
  1. High School Graduate, GED, or non-traditional student entering a vocational program
  2. Be sponsored by a Rotary District 6440 Club
  3. Be accepted at a school of designation
  4. Permanent residence (domiciled) or employed in District 6440*
* NOTE:  Residing outside District 6440 for educational purposes is not a disqualification.

Each Rotary club in the district can sponsor two applicants after they have vetted them.  If you know of anyone who would be interested in this opportunity, please have them contact President Melanie.

TIMETABLE

Applications must be sent to the Rotary District 6440 Vocational Scholarship Committee by April 9, 2021.   Interviews are planned for April 24, 2021.  Selections will be announced no later than April 30, 2021 and made available to the sponsoring club vocational chair and published on the District website.
Guatemala March 2021 Service Trip Postponed
From Dan Wolf:

Regretfully, circumstances require that we cancel our March 2021 trips to Ak’ Tenamit scheduled for March 5-14 and March 19-28.

Given the hopeful news about vaccines, we are targeting October 2021 for a possible reboot.  Details will follow as we learn more.
