Stories
Last week one of our community grant winners, Connect to the Community, attended our meeting to tell us about their organization that was founded in 2013 by four mothers who wanted to build a better future for their children with special needs. On their application they state:  ”Looking ahead to the day when their children would turn 22 and exit the schools system, they knew that the supports they had always relied upon would be gone and it would be up to them to create a meaningful, quality day for their children”.  CTC services revolve around four main themes: Employment, Social Opportunities, Educational Outreach, and Creative Day Options. They serve the area of the Northwest Suburban Special Education Organization (NSSEO) which includes high school district 214.

Makes plans for a great Rotary Day of learning and fellowship at the October 24th One Rotary Summit. The morning session includes new case study formatted learning on Membership, Foundation and Public Image and a separate ABCs of Rotary track for newer Rotarians interested in a comprehensive overview on all Rotary has to offer. Afternoon sessions will include round table discussions on all five Avenues of Service and a PETS Orientation for our President Elects. There is no charge to you or your club for this event, and Box lunches are available for $12 (you must order and pay in advance when you register). Please register soon; registration will close on Wednesday Oct. 21. - See more at: http://www.rotary6440.org/#sthash.ZRlHE3OM.dpuf
Opportunity is knocking.  District Governor Rodney Adams and PDG Sarah Oliver invite you to increase the effectiveness of your Rotary service by gaining knowledge and building skills helpful in your current or future club or district committee position by taking advantage of one of the courses in District 6440 Leadership Academy 2015-2016 – Membership, Public Image/Public Relations, Youth Service, Rotary Organization or The Rotary Foundation.

DLA 2015-2016 is a fully online program, with all research and assignment submissions being done electronically.  Most courses are about a month long and begin at the first of the month.  The TRF course runs from March 1 until mid-April.  Each typically involves reviewing specific resources, joining in online discussions, completing written assignments, and taking a final exam, all within the allotted timeframe for the specific course.

The courses become available one at a time in order, and completion is expected during the month that the particular course is active.  Membership begins about October 1, and Public Image concludes in late November.  December is our “break” month.  Active work begins again in early January with the Youth Service course, followed by the Rotary Organization course in February, and ends in mid April with the completion of The Rotary Foundation course that begins on March 1.  You can plan on spending an average of 15 to 20 hours per month on a typical course.

The “all electronic” District Leadership Academy program has been training Rotarians since 1998 to be the best-prepared club and district leaders possible.  In all, more than 850 club members in the United States, Canada and Russia have graduated from the program in their respective districts.

Register today to become part of building the future of your club and district and to increase your comfort with guiding fellow Rotarians.  Complete the Pre-course in September for October Membership, in October for November Public Image, in November or December for January Youth Service, in January for February Rotary Organization, or in February for The Rotary Foundation course.

If you have questions after reading all of the three required application documents, please contact PDG Sarah Oliver at gov.sarah@rotary6440.org.
