Virtual Business Meeting 4/30 at 12:15 - New Instructions
From Bill:   I think it's important to give the members a formal status report on the club and hear from the board members and committee heads so this week's virtual meeting will be a business meeting - Thursday at 12:15 PM.

We invite everyone to join!

As a result of the concerns about strangers joining in to Zoom meetings (aka "zoombombing") we are adding 2 security features to our meeting:

1) A Password will be added to the invitation. Once you click the Zoom link, you will be asked to enter a 6 digit password. You will find that password in the email I send this Thursday morning.

2) Once you enter the meeting, you will go directly into a "Waiting Room". I will get an alert that you are there and I will then click a button to join you into the meeting.

Please make sure to type your NAME in when you join to identify yourself.

I will send out the Zoom link and Password on Thursday morning

If anyone is new to Zoom and would like to do a quick training with me, please call Shannon at 630-220-6106 or respond to this email.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to get training - it will only take a few minutes and you will be set to go to Zoom with us!

The Science of Helping Out - Foundation Minute
This past week The New York Times featured an article which validates the feelings we have when helping others. To quote from the article:

At a time when we are all experiencing an extraordinary level of stress, science offers a simple and effective way to bolster our own emotional health. To help yourself, start by helping others! Much of the scientific research on resilience – which is our ability to bounce back from adversity – has shown that having a sense of purpose, and giving support to others, has a significant impact on our well-being.

The author, Adam Grant, states that one of the best anti-anxiety medications is generosity. The great thing about showing up for other people is that it doesn’t have to cost a whole lot or anything at all, and it ends up being beneficial to the giver. Our bodies and minds benefit in a variety of ways when we help others. Both giver and receiver benefit whether the support is large or small, whether monetary or time; it can be as simple as a phone call, giving advice or just lending a listening ear.

Helping others helps us to regain our sense of control and to regulate our own emotions. Those with resilience find meaning and purpose in helping others in need – simply helping a neighbor or doing shopping for someone will benefit not only the person you helped, but will bring you benefits too.

Our Food Donations to Local Healthcare workers
Our club is making food donations to area hospitals for our healthcare workers/first responders. Thanks to Continental Restaurant and Banquets and Pete for preparing these amazing donations and thanks to the club members who volunteered to deliver the food.  Here are a couple more photos of our deliveries.

New Date for Golf Outing - Sept. 30th
Due to the extended Stay-at-Home order, SLSF and The Rotary Club of Buffalo Grove have made the difficult decision to reschedule the 2020 Buffalo Grove Golf Classic from May 20, 2020 to Wednesday, September 30, 2020.
Village of Buffalo Grove Info on COVID-19
Dane and his staff have created a useful website page for anyone seeking local information on COVID-19.  Click here to reach that page.
New Facebook Page for Our Club
Melanie has created a Facebook page so we can stay connected that way if you choose to.  Go to  BG Rotary COVID-19 Touch Base FB Group! and join us.  As Melanie said:
Feel free to utilize this page if you'd like to check in and let us know how you are faring through this unprecedented time! Let us know what you're doing to stay busy (and sane), and if there is anything you believe we could all benefit from.
