Last week Mike gave his Member Moment, Deb Smith did a Fun 'N Frolics on Illinois history and Jeff and Martha brought guests from Kenya, James and Abby. James is a Rotarian in his country and he brought us a carved elephant statute and President Jason exchanged club banners with him. Since they are elected officials, Tim gave them a tour of Village Hall after the meeting which they enjoyed. We sang our traditional happy birthday song at Dennis' request. We then heard the classification speech of Tyler Grace, our assistant village manager. Thanks Tyler for letting us get to know you better!
We recently inducted a new member to our club, Ryann Uden, who is the Deputy Director at the Indian Trails Library. Brian was her sponsor, as one of the library's corporate members. Welcome Ryann!
Our club members were selling duck tickets on Sunday at both the Farmers Market and at the First Annual Community Services and Wellness Fair, both held at Mike Rylko Park. Thanks so much for your time!
Our club committee of Martha, Juliet and Cass are meeting with members of the Arlington Heights Club (the lead club), and the Palatine and River Cities Clubs to plan our walk on October 24, 2026 at 10 am when Rotarians from Zones 25b & 29 will be participating in the World's Largest Polio Walk. District 6440 is encouraging us to be a part of this event with 22 other districts across 13 states and two countries. This will be a fun comunity walk at Lake Arlington to raise awareness of Rotary's End Polio Now campaign and to fundraise for it.
The Buffalo Grove Fire Department (BGFD) proudly participates in the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance’s “Be Alarmed!” program, offering free smoke detector installations to all residents of the Village of Buffalo Grove. As part of this statewide initiative, BGFD installs 10-year sealed lithium battery smoke alarms, designed to provide long‑term, tamper-resistant protection in the home.
Stephen and Dan are excited to announce the dates for the next Ak’ Tenamit project: The trip will be Saturday, February 20 through Tuesday, March 2, 2027.
Buffalo Grove Rotarians (and family members) will have priority until May 31, 2026. After that, space will be filled on a first-come first-served basis.
BG Rotarians making their first trip to Ak’ Tenamit are eligible for a club subsidy of up to $1500. Please contact Stephen or Dan to reserve your spot!

Thank you to those club members who continue to contribute to the Buffalo Grove High School Comfort Closet. This is a discreet service at the high school to assist those students who do not experience the privilege of all they need for personal hygiene and care at home due to circumstances. Please keep us in mind for your donations of these new, unused items you may have at home. Such items are: toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, lotion, feminine products, deodorant, etc. Also, your cash donations to Deenie on their behalf are so appreciated and make a difference in their life. Items are purchased at GiveNKind for pennies on the dollar. Here is a photo of their pick up from Deenie’s home last week. Please bring donations to our Rotary meetings and Deenie will collect them.
