Donation in Honor of Karen
A motion was made and approved for the Bartlett Rotary Club to donate $100 to the Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research Foundation in honor of Karen Kirkby. 
Bartlett Activity Complex
Seth Lewis from the Bartlett Activity Complex thanked the Bartlett Rotary club for the $25,000 donation that kicked off the start and helped to build momentum in raising over 1.5 million dollars for a new sports complex at the Bartlett High school. He is inviting everyone out to the 1st football game on the home field on August 31, 2018.  
September Board Meeting
The September Board meeting is scheduled for Thursday, September 6, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Villa Olivia. 
Edward Jones Open House
Please join Elliot on September 19, 2018 from 11:30 a.m.. to 1:00 p.m. at Edward Jones, 138 Bartlett Plaza, for an open house.  
Reading Chair Project 
One of the companies that we have partnered with for several years in the Hancock  Hustle is Auto Truck.  Mike F has been talking with them over the last few months about another community outreach program.  Initially it appeared we were going to be doing a “bike program”.  That was cancelled.  The new initiative is “A Day of Caring” and we will be building and distributing “Reading Chairs” for children.  This concept is taking place across the country and emphasizes reading with children.  It looks to support current initiatives in schools, libraries, and other locations with children reading.  Some of the details……………..
 
  1. Build 15 chairs
  2. Possibly conduct a book drive  to include some books with each chair
  3. September 21 is the building day for the chairs
  4. Identify location for the 15 chairs
  5. Possibly in a gentle manner put logos of Auto Truck, Fire District, and Rotary on the back of the chairs as the contributors
Please let Mike know if you have any suggestions on where to place the chairs or are interested in helping out with the project.

Elliot's Classification Speech
Thank you to  Elliot for a wonderful classification speech! We learned a lot about you and we are so excited that you are part of our Club!!!!!   
RILEE
Rotary will be hosting the RILEE Display at Heritage Days on September 8, 2018 at the Bartlett Museum Depot from 10am to 2pm. If you would like to volunteer to for a couple of hours, please let Paula know. 
Bring A Friend!/Lock Out Hunger
Thank you to everyone who brought a FRIEND to our meeting on Thursday. August 30, 2018!!! Also, thank you to everyone who donated a non-perishable food item for the Lock Out Hunger Drive being hosted by the Village Hall. They have almost reached full capacity. 
Rotary/Library Literacy Event
The Bartlett Public Library has asked the Bartlett Rotary Club to once again partner with them to host the annual literacy night on Thursday November 15, 2018. The  $500 donation for the partnership will be used to purchase new books for each of the attendees and also provide some light snacks. Rotarian's are invited to be guest readers. 
T-Shirt/Badge Order
Karolyn will be placing an order for new t-shirts and badges for our members during the month of August. If you need a new shirt or new badge please reach out to Karolyn to confirm your orders. There is a $30 charge for shirts and a $0 charge for new badges. If you have any questions, please let Karolyn know.
 
Foundation By-Laws
A big thank you to James Barr for creating the Bartlett Rotary Foundation By-Laws. These will be presented to the club during the next few weeks. If you have any questions, please see James.

Rotary Youth Exchange
Our outbound exchange student Zoey will be going to Spain! She is working on a scholarship application to help defray the cost. Mike M will be writing a letter of support. There is a suggested requirement that our club matches the scholarship amount. If that is not feasible we can provide what we can.  We can also do some mini fundraisers for her over the next few months. She has also started a blog and she will let us know when it is up and running. Mike M and Ralph were going to double check when financial payments need to be paid so we can keep on top of her payments.
