Lauren Asprooth shared with us an update on the work she is going to be doing in Rome which includes measurements on how certain agricultural changes are impacting the environment. We wish her the best of luck in her future position.
Rita shared with the club that a time capsule was found when they were doing renovations on the Shrade Gymnasium. Inside they found a letter written by Bill Tiknis. :) Along with the letter was a silver dollar. The letter was very nice and after a brief discussion, the club decided to leave the letter and dollar as is and place it back in the time capsule. What a wonderful surprise from one of our founding club Rotarians.
Mike Falese will be heading up the Special Project Committee which will consist of the the following Rotarian's:

Rotary received a framed photo from the Bartlett High School. The photo was a shot of the new Bartlett High School Stadium and was given to the club as a way to show their gratitude towards the generous donation the Club made which really got the momentum going!!!
One of the companies that we have partnered with for several years in the Hancock Hustle is Auto Truck. Mike F has been talking with them over the last few months about another community outreach program. Initially it appeared we were going to be doing a “bike program”. That was cancelled. The new initiative is “A Day of Caring” and we will be building and distributing “Reading Chairs” for children. This concept is taking place across the country and emphasizes reading with children. It looks to support current initiatives in schools, libraries, and other locations with children reading. Some of the details……………..
Build 15 chairs
Possibly conduct a book drive to include some books with each chair
September 21 is the building day for the chairs
Identify location for the 15 chairs-Bartlett Library, Arts in Bartlett, Train Depot, Possibly the Townships?
Possibly in a gentle manner put logos of Auto Truck, Fire District, and Rotary on the back of the chairs as the contributors
Please let Mike know if you have any suggestions on where to place the chairs or are interested in helping out with the project.
The Bartlett Public Library has asked the Bartlett Rotary Club to once again partner with them to host the annual literacy night on Thursday November 15, 2018. The $500 donation for the partnership will be used to purchase new books for each of the attendees and also provide some light snacks. Rotarian's are invited to be guest readers.
Karolyn will be placing an order for new t-shirts and badges for our members during the month of October. If you need a new shirt or new badge please reach out to Karolyn to confirm your orders. There is a $30 charge for shirts and a $0 charge for new badges. If you have any questions, please let Karolyn know.
A big thank you to James Barr for creating the Bartlett Rotary Foundation By-Laws. These will be presented to the club during the next few weeks. If you have any questions, please see James.
Our outbound exchange student Zoey will be going to Spain! She is working on a scholarship application to help defray the cost. Mike M will be writing a letter of support. There is a suggested requirement that our club matches the scholarship amount. If that is not feasible we can provide what we can. We can also do some mini fundraisers for her over the next few months. She has also started a blog and she will let us know when it is up and running. Mike M and Ralph were going to double check when financial payments need to be paid so we can keep on top of her payments.
