Let’s first welcome our newest member Virginia Menzimer who is a recently retired RN from Good Shepherd Hospital. Virginia is very dedicated to helping others and is a great addition to our club!
I would like to give a big THANKS to all BBRC members who hosted 34 of us this weekend for the BBRC Progressive Dinner. We began the evening at Hollis Brothers Auto Repair in Barrington, which was a fun and unique venue with great appetizers hosted by Steve and Eliza Hollis. We then split up into 4 separate homes for dinner and were entertained by Gillett Johnson and Dawn Knight, Debbie and Gaylord Villers, Mary Holcomb and Mark Schulte, and Maria and Ken Peterson. We then all reconvened at Mary and Mark's beautiful home for dessert. All in attendance enjoyed the camaraderie and food. The buzz is that this should be an "annual event."
This week the presentation will be the Taiwan Exchange Part 2. The first presentation centered on the service part of the trip teaching English at Dadu Elementary School. This second presentation will be focused on the cultural exchange part of the trip, which was participated in by Mike and Kris Young, Rose Grace, Mark Gibson, Eric Lin and 5 other Rotarians from District 6440 clubs. Living with a family and experiencing their lives and culture is a great way to experience a country, but sharing this experience with other Rotarians who are also interested in service to their community is even better!
Mark Gibson sent me a photo from Citizens For Conservation’s recent program where they acknowledged our club’s recent tree planting. We are proud to have accomplished this goal and hope to continue collaboration with local conservation nonprofits to improve the environment. This may become an additional Rotary Area of Focus soon.
