    President's Message

This weekend some of us attended the District 6440 Winter training.

During the grant seminar, Governor Don Brewer recognized Narayan Murarka and our club for winning the Rotary Foundation Challenge Grant for a Water and Sanitation and Hygiene project in Guatemala.

This will be the topic of our presentation this week as Narayan will inform us of the specifics of this $552,500 grant project.

Polio;Barbie.  Elizabeth McGrath shared memories of her little sister Barbie who spent one year in an iron lung when she was a toddler.  Elizabeth displayed the little red shoes purchased for Barbie that she never wore. The Family moved to California for a year so that Barbie could have  a special surgery for her spine.  The surgery was not successful and Barbie spent the rest of her life in a wheel chair.  Barbie died at age 15 when Elizabeth was 22.

GUEST SPEAKER - JACK CALDWELL
BBRC Member - Jack Caldwell
gave his classification talk and described his early life growing up in New Hampshire, Wisconsin Rapids, Japan and back to Wisconsin before settling in IL.  He was the owner of Take One Video & Stereo Images located in Barrington during the 80's & early 90's. He spent nearly 20 years in the Physical Security Industry working in and around Chicago. Dean Paulson owner of Paulson Lumber Company, was his sponsor when he first joined Rotary in 1980.

Jacks wife Karen was a teacher at Sunny Hill Elementary for nearly 20 years.  Our Rotary club is very invested in programs that benefit the children of Sunny Hill School.  Jack and Karen have two children Monica & Graham and two Grandchildren Harriet & Walker Irwin.

Now Jack enjoys doing the club bulletin! He also spoke a bit about club runner, the club's website software system. Kudos to Jack for the bulletins we receive each week.

FINALLY

I took a ride to Red's in Richmond this past Sunday
to listen to some Blues. I also went to witness our own
BBRC club member, Pastor Joe Dorociak on the right and at the mic.

I'm here to tell you the man can pick a guitar!!! This group of musicians jam every Sunday from 2-6pm and
I highly recommend the drive.  I will be going back soon and would love to go with a group of Club Members.  So let make a date!

I want to give a big thank you to Elizabeth, Pat & Suzanne for the providing me such great minutes to work with.  Pat has done several minutes lately.

I especially want to thank Laura for allowing Louis to be the club photographer.  She has him doing such a great job. Louis is such a wonderful, highly talented
multifaceted man, that its no surprise. He is my hero!

How did you ever get her?
