Why did you join Rotary?

In 2011 I was involved in some of the community efforts to address mental and emotional health.  I had been teaching classes for families dealing with a loved one who was experiencing mental, emotional and physical health challenges.  Debbie Villers invited me to present at a BBRC meeting.  It was my first encounter with Rotary, and I was impressed with the scope of it's reach.  The weekly meetings seemed like such an effective clearing house for so much going on locally, nationally and internationally.

What experiences/ projects/ events have you most enjoyed and/or gained the most from your participation?

I have really enjoyed the variety of our membership.  A lot of different strengths, perspectives, personalities, etc.  But at the end of the day, we come together weekly and are a community.  And a lot gets accomplished!  I like to watch and observe how people interact.  I've learned a lot from our members.

Through Rotary I've made several trips to Guatemala to work on some of our global grants.  It has been a priceless experience in so many ways.  For me working side by side others is one of the best ways to get to know someone.  Strong relationships were built within our team, with the Guatemala Rotarians and most especially, with the locals.

What three things do your enjoy doing in your "free" time?

Only three?  That's really hard!
I really like physical activity.  Bike riding, walking, strength training, swimming, Tai Chi.  All of it!  Preferably outside.

Food and hospitality is something I have always enjoyed.  Cooking, gardening, preserving foods, entertaining are all so related for me.  Memories are made around the table.

Travel and reading also make the list.  What I have missed most during COVID has been the local library.  I was delighted to see it reopened.
