As we recognize the work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. today, I'd like to make a challenge to the members of our club to participate in the United Way of Illinois Equity Challenge. You will see the information below in an excerpt from one of Governor Lyle Staab's weekly emails.  It is an easily identified fact in any of our meetings, whether in person or virtual, that we are a club that could very likely benefit from some increased diversity. I'm hopeful that a good number of our members will be willing to devote just 15 minutes a week to this challenge and in the  end we can have a healthy discussion of the issues presented in the program.

The United Way of Illinois Equity Challenge, which starts on January 18th,  is a 21-week program that encourages Illinois residents to engage in conversations and gain a deeper understanding about the impact systemic racism and inequity have on our state and in our local communities.  THERE IS NO COST TO PARTICIPANTS, who will receive one email per week through mid-June.  Each weekly challenge will require 15 minutes.  Topics include Understanding Privilege, Housing & Redlining, Justice System Inequities, among many others. Participants who complete all of the weekly challenges will receive a certificate of completion, a digital badge, and links to tips and training tools to help continue the conversation.

A number of Clubs are signing up groups of their members for the Equity Challenge or using it to focus their own discussions.  So is the Governors Line.  Join us.

Stay well,
Lyle

Club Meeting January 14, 2021
Our very fast paced club meeting last week included the Annual Member Meeting where we voted to approve the new slate of officers for the 2021-2022 Rotary year. Thanks to Ben Weaver for leading the slate committee through the process and thanks to the slate committee for their hard work on this effort.  I'd like to personally thank everyone who has agreed to be on my board, but especially I'd like to thank Dr. Joe who, as Immediate Past President (IPP), has agreed to lead Membership again. It has been a while since we had an IPP who volunteered to be a Director. Thank you, Joe.

If you missed the Big Wheel last week with the full slate, you can find it here.

In addition, Mark Tauber, a two-time past president, once our club, once his prior club, has agreed to be Vice President. He did make it clear he is not committing to jump into the Presidential line of succession again, but as he said, "glad to help". Thank you, Mark.

A couple members have volunteered for very critical roles that will support the club, while not full board members, meaning no need to attend board meetings.
Programs co-chairs Bill Kmiecik and Mark Tauber (Yes, you see Mark's name twice!)
Service Project Chair - Chuck Frankiewicz
Grants Chair - Karen Baker
I'm excited about what we can accomplish next Rotary year with this great involvement. Thank you all in advance!
A recording of the club meeting, which also included a fast-paced Club Assembly can be found here.

Our GTKYA presenter was Wendy Davis. Her lively presentation can be found here
