October 25, 2024.  Each year we award grants to local student organizations to encourage global awareness and promote global citizenship.  This year two of the awards went to organizations at John Hersey High School.  Pictured at left, Youth Services chair John Kent presents a check to members of the Asian Student Association.  Funds will be used to develop and display educational information to increase knowledge and understanding of Asian American history, culture, politics, entertainment, economics, colleges, and careers and to organize events and activities that celebrate Asian American culture and promote cultural exchange.

 

 

The other organization at Hersey to receive a global awareness award was the Latin American Student Organization (LASO).  LASO is an organization that helps build leaders and allow students to feel pride of who they are without sacrificing their identity to fit in.  This is done through a variety of activities organized throughout the year that help students to celebrate and share their Latin American Heritage.
