Colleen Shinn, Community Outreach Manager, Chicagoland Chapter, Autism Speaks delivered a presentation from the organization.  Distributed materials say, "Autism Speaks is dedicated to promoting solutions across the spectrum and throughout the life space for the needs of people with autism and their families...through advocacy and support, increasing understanding and acceptance of autism spectrum disorder, and advancing research into causes and better interventions for autism spectrum disorder and related conditions."

A question after the program asked as to the reason for the seeming great increase in autism.  The response was that additional diagnoses have been included under the umbrella of autism and that there are autism-specific screening tools these days.
