Getting to Know You (aka Classification)
Marilyn Genther – classification Library Director – gave her classification talk May 11, 2017. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio she attended DePauw University in Indiana and received her master’s degree from the University of Kentucky.
She began her career in the Cincinnati Public Library and made a career move to Indianapolis Public Library and then to the Mt. Prospect Library where she is the Executive Director.
She has steered the Mt. Prospect Library through the last three voter referendums seeking to expand the facilities. The most significant expansion occurred after the approval of a $20 million referendum in 2002 for the expansion and renovation of the library which took two years to complete. She is also proud of the establishment of the South Branch and Community Connections Center in partnership with the Village which was completed a few years ago.
She believes in the integral value of a public library to a community and feels that a library’s offerings reflect the demands of the local community.
Marilyn is active on the Mt. Prospect Chamber and Historical Society boards.
She started her Rotary membership in the Mt. Prospect Sunrise club when it was founded in 1992. The club disbanded a couple years ago. She is an Arlington Heights resident. Her interests are travel, history and genealogy.
