Ken Bredemeier presented the history of HEDAC, (Honduras Educational Development Assistance Corps.), their 501©3 not for profit organization whose mission is to advance education in Honduras.  Ken’s wife Lorena is from the community of Moraza, Yoro  Honduras and she and Ken started the organization in 1999 as a result of Hurricane Mitch.  For six years they made annual hurricane relief trips providing clothing, toys and buying food in bulk to distributes to hundreds of needy families. 

 

In 2005, they made the move to focus on education so as to make a greater impact on lives.  They support 13 schools with refurbishment, building of classrooms, kitchens, bathrooms and providing student and classroom supplies. They also have given scholarships to 38 students to keep them in school through high school.

 

Their most recent project was the building of an afterschool facility to help get kids off the streets and supplement their education with learning by doing. 

 

The president of Honduras, recently awarded HEDAC with the donation of a parcel of land with the goal of building a vocational technical center which is a huge challenge that will help provide the children of Morazan trade skills and opportunities for employment.
