Last week we got a 20 minute condensed version of the many things Lisa accomplished as club president last year. She did a lot for our club and was recognized at the district level for her efforts. We are blessed to have Lisa. Her talents will not wasted.
As mentioned Tuesday, the board will be voting on a dues increase in our next board meeting. I asked for input from the members considering this issue. The reason for this comes from the District. They have asked that each club raise $10 per year per member so approximately $500,000 can be raised. (This cannot come out of our foundation funds). This money is needed to prepare a package for Chicago to solicit the Rotary International Conference to come to Houston in 2021. It would be a great honor if we can secure this. It is my understanding that there are two cities in the running for that year. The other city is Boston. However, the inside scoop is San Antonio refused to bid on any future conferences until it is held in Houston. So we might have the inside track. If we do not secure the conference, any unspent monies will be donated to our fight against Polio.
If you have an opinion on this increase, feel free to call or email any board member. I will state that we could handle this okay this year but it is getting tight. The board discussion will start with raising the dues $1 per month to cover this need.
Tuesday, Doug Earle will present on The First Tee of Houston. They are a non profit that reach out to our youth and teach them life skills.

THIS IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO ACCESS A LARGE SUPPLY OF SCHOOL & OFFICE FURNITURE FREE!!! ALL THE FURNISHING OF AN ENTIRE SCHOOL!!! I'M SURE THERE ARE NEEDS THROUGHOUT OUR DISTRICT AND FOR OUR SERVICE PROJECTS. BUT YOU HAVE TO ACT FAST; IT'S ALL GOT TO BE REMOVED WITHIN 10 DAYS......
Below is a message that I received from Angie Jimenez, Past President of Houston Rotary Club.
Today I inspected the old building of the AWTY school. AWTY has been giving us books and school supplies mainly for our Rotary Books for the World project for many years. The original building will be demolished and a new building installed in its place.
We could have everything if we act IMMEDIATELY.
They have school desks and office furniture. Great chairs, file cabinets, an upright piano, office partitions (3 stations), office desks, including the whole office of a past Head Master (I would guesstimate this item at about 5 to 7,000 dollars, and it looks practically new.)
Problem: the whole thing has to be taken away within 10 days (or less if possible) as they will start demolishing the old building..
I do not have the space in my new office to have this (full of books right now !).
I figure the volume of freight at about 4 to 5 40 trailers. Of course it could be taken to different places.
ANY interest? (It would be great for the Firemen Project, and or to Mexico and some to Books for the World ., and possibly for Linda Caruso's school.)
I am trying to see if I could rent TEMPORARILY a warehouse in the place were I am located now. I would pay for the rent for about 2/3 months, but I would prefer a better solution, plus they did not tell me if they have anything open right now.
All these furniture is practically new, in perfect shape and not cheap.
My cell , just in case, is 713-806-6244
