2013-2014 Year End Report
& Looking Ahead to the 2014-15 Rotary Year
The Annual Fund – Thanks to Chair Lucy Pendon, our District 5890 Rotarians and Clubs contributed a total of $466,237 to the Annual Fund (50% of which will come back to our District in the 2016-17 Rotary Year! Our Per-Capita giving averaged $181.13 per member. Both this District-wide average and total are the second highest in our District’s last 10 years. In addition, our Total Giving of $734, 984 is the highest total in the last 10 years.
Thanks to our 150 Paul Harris Society Members for greatly increasing the average!
Polio Plus – Thanks to Chairs Wayne Staton & David Frishman, our Clubs and members contributed a total of $127,681 (+ $20,000 from the District Designated Fund –donated by our Rotarians to the Annual Fund three year ago) in the 2013-14 year. For the 2014-15 year, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has again pledged to contribute $2 for each $1 spent by Rotary for Polio eradication activities, up to a total of $35 Million in Rotarian donations.
In addition, our District’s PolioPlus Chair, Wayne Staton, will be introducing the new World’s Greatest Meal Campaign designed to raise funds and awareness at the Sept. 20 Foundation Seminar.
Rotary’s Endowment – Our Rotarians pledged to give $2.18 Million – mostly in future gifts to Rotary’s Endowment - at this year’s Million $ Tea – Chaired by PDG D’Lisa Simmons & PDG Rhonda Walls Kerby (with great assistance by PDG Suzi Howe, DG Bob Gebhard and others). We recognized our first Level 7 Bequest Society Members and our third Arch Klumph Society Members at that event as well as about 20 other Major Gift givers. Currently, Rotary’s Endowment holds Net Assets of $337.1 Million and has Expectancies of $565.8 Million for a total of $902.9 Mil. Our Rotary-wide goal is to reach $1 Billion by the end of 2015.
District Grants – Thanks to Our Grants Management Trainer Wally Kronzer, our District Grants Chair Lisa Pauls and Co-Chair Barbara Franklin and our Grants Chair Martin Bailey, Forty-Two of our District 5890, Future Vision – Grants Management Qualified Clubs were awarded 2013-14 Rotary Year District Grants. Applications for 2014-15 District Grants of up to $3,000 (for top tier contributing clubs) were presented by each applying club and reviewed by the Grants Committee on July 11, 2014. Grants Chair Martin Bailey w ill be announcing the District Grant Project Start Date as soon as TRF approves our District Block Grant.
Global Grants – Thanks to the “matchmaking” of our Global Grants Advisor Bill Davis, District 5890 has over 40 Global Grants currently underway including the newest one for AIDS Prevention training and equipment for an Adolescent Center in Botswana. Our three outbound 2013-14 scholars (Amy Parker, Samantha Webb & Derek Marchant) will be coming home soon and our 2014-15 Scholar, Jost Lunstroth will be heading to Columbia in early 2014 to study Peace and Conflict Resolution. Michelle Heard, recipient of a 2013-14 Jerome & Edward House Endowed Scholarship is studying in Melbourne, Australia. The 2014-15 Global Grant Scholarships for Jesus Sotelo and Alexandra Sutherland have both now been approved. In addition, our Inbound Scholars, Dr. Shigeki Yagyu from Japan & Dr. Manu Sharma will be staying here until the end of this year.
