We had a great Shrimp Boil & Fish Fry for 2014.  Scott did a great job as did everyone involved.  I want to thank each of you for making it a huge success.  We indeed have a great club.  This club fundraiser continues to grow and impress.  I look forward to Scott letting us know exactly what we did. I am also confident it will keep improving and growing.  Scott set a high mark for future SB chairs.

Today, Randy Webber will be with us.  Rod is getting great presenters and we all know that it is a coup to secure Congressman Webber to speak to our club.  We all need to show up and encourage the membership with your presence and personality.

Our exchange student should be in attendance this week.  Her name is Karin (CAR-in) Boman from Sweden.  From my time I have spent with her, I have found her to be very respectful and polite.  We need to appreciate Diane Glenn, Jim Pierce, and Keith Franks for their work and commitment in youth exchange.  It takes considerable time and training for them to keep us qualified to send and acquire students.

See ya there.

Stories
Editor’s Note:  The members of rotary are a very diverse group. We come from all over the world, and we come from right here in Brazoria County. We have different backgrounds, experience and skills and when we join them together, amazing things happen. As we are joining together to do good in the community, we thought it would be great to feature members of Rotary.  Allow us to introduce you to Obinna “Obi” Ononobi. Obi is one of the newest Rotarians to join the Brazosport Rotary Club. We reached out to Obi to learn a little bit more about his career path, motivation, family and hobbies.  Welcome Obi to the Club!

What do you do and what was your career path that brought you here?
I am the Administrator of Operations and Marketing at Altus Lake Jackson Center. My career path has mostly meant I have stayed in the classroom. I attended university for eight years where I obtained my MBA and Masters of Hospital Administration (MHA).

What do you love most about your job?
I love having the opportunity to work with and influence my employees on a daily basis. I also enjoy having the chance to be a blessing to patients that have financial issues and burdens when it comes to receiving healthcare.

Did you grow up in Brazoria County?
No, I am fairly new to the community, I have only been here for about 4 months.

What is something interesting the Rotary club should know about you?
I am originally from Nigeria and I won a visa lottery to come to the United States.

Why did you join rotary?
I was forced! Just kidding, I saw the good that men like Kenny and Walter were doing. I was impressed and wanted to join an organization that benefited and cared for the community, not just themselves.

What motivates you?
The idea of failing. I want to learn from failures and ensure that those mistakes are not made again.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time? Hobbies?
I enjoy exercising and playing sports. I played football in college, but really enjoy basketball.

Can you tell us a little bit about your family?
I have five siblings, four sisters and a brother. I am number 3 out of the six children.

Brazosport Rotary Club Recently welcomed to the club Chris Gilkison, Financial Advisor for Edward Jones. Welcome to Brazosport Rotary Chris!

Fred Cordes, Semi Retired, Former Business owner, SCUBA instructor, recently joined the Brazosport Rotary Club. Welcome to Brazosport Rotary Fred!
Brazosport Rotary Club would like to extend our thanks for the support of the community and our partners. The Annual Shrimp Boil was huge success, raising money that will all go back to serve the good of our neighbors.

Great news! With our big haul at last week's meeting, we are within $5,000 of our goal of $21,250 in sponsorship growth, which would put us at a total of $132,150. That's nothing short of amazing giving us a growth of almost 20 percent.

But you know what would be really incredible? We are less than $18,000 away from reaching $150,000. If each of us were to bring in just one $250 sponsorship in the next two and a half weeks, we would be there.

Let's not be afraid to set our goals high. Let's push ourselves to do more than we thought we could.

Let's give ourselves the tools to go out and help our community this year more than we ever have before.

Let's hit $150,000.

We have made great strides in connecting spouses, partners, family and friends of Rotarians at various functions. We are proud and VERY excited to announce that we are now an official Chartered Rotary Community Corps (RCC) Organization (an official service branch of Rotary International) specifically for non-Rotarians of District 5890.

Does your spouse, significant other, family or friends decline to come to Rotary functions because they don’t know anyone? This is the perfect way to change that AND is a way to have fun, give back to the community and meet some great people.

Want to hear more?

Join us and witness great things happening!!
