Last Week’s Meeting – Scholarships

Twenty-plus students and their parents attended our meeting this week to say thank you and tell us a bit more about themselves and what their plans involve for the future. It was a pleasure to see the range of interests the students have and what they have accomplished so far in their first 18 years. Thank you so much to Jacque Cundieff and everyone involved with the scholarship committee this year for all of their time and effort in selecting these deserving students.

This Week’s Meeting – Are You Ready for the Shrimp Boil?

Believe it or not, it’s time again to gear up for our annual Shrimp Boil and Fish Fry. Chair Scott Ferry will kick off our summer countdown to the Shrimp Boil and will tell us what we will need to do to have another great year.

Rotary Convention

Well, we’re off to the Rotary Convention in Sydney! Jeff and I, and Greg and Lucy Pendon left on Tuesday for the airport and had to spend the night near the airport after our first flight was cancelled due to mechanical trouble. American Airlines put us up for the evening and fed us, so the delay wasn’t all bad. As I write this, we are at LAX waiting for our flight to Sydney that leaves at 12:05 a.m. Houston time. Kenny and Stone Vernor leave 10 minutes later on a different flight, so we should arrive in Sydney at about the same time on Friday morning (Thursday afternoon at home, I think). We will see you in a couple of weeks!

BISD Track Meet posponed until April 30

Due to inclement weather, the BISD 5th & 6th Grade Track Meet was canceled.

The makeup day is tentatively planned for April 30th. I will send out more information at a later date.

Club Leadership Training (District Assembly) - April 26

District 5890 "Club Leadership Training" will be held April 26, 2014 HCC Southwest, 5601 West Loop South, Houston, TX 77081 This is a team leadership training for all 2014-2015 Club Officers and members. Each officer will receive training on their specific officer duties as well as a "Rotary 101" class for new members. This is your chance to hear about all of the exciting things that will be happening in the Rotary world for the Rotary Year of 2014-2015.

Join District Governor-Elect Lisa Faith Massey as she unveils the 2014-15 Rotary theme and delivers the goals of R.I. President-elect Gary C.K. Huang for the upcoming Rotary Year.

Registration begins at 8:00 am, Continental Breakfast and Networking. Training begins at 8:30 am and should conclude around 1:00 pm.

The location of our Club Leadership Training and all subsequent District Training Events is HCC Southwest, 5601 West Loop South, Houston, TX 77081

Club are encouraged to pay for their members' fees. $15.00 per person in advance, $20.00 at the door
